“Be Opened”

August 31, 2017

“Be Opened”

Blessings folk!

We resume the account.
Reread giving close heed to what Jesus did in healing the man…

Mar 7:31-37

Again He went out from the region of Tyre,
and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
within the region of Decapolis.

They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty,
and they implored Him to lay His hand on him.

Jesus took him aside from the crowd,
by himself, and put His fingers into his ears,
and after spitting, He touched his tongue with the saliva;

and looking up to heaven with a deep sigh, He said to him,
“Ephphatha!” that is, “Be opened!”

And his ears were opened,
and the impediment of his tongue was removed,
and he began speaking plainly.

And He gave them orders not to tell anyone;
but the more He ordered them,
the more widely they continued to proclaim it.

They were utterly astonished, saying,
“He has done all things well;
He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak.”

As we saw yesterday, Jesus took the man aside, away from crowd, to Himself.

Jesus put His fingers into the man’s ears.
Jesus spit, apparently into His hands.
Jesus touched the tongue of the man with His saliva
Jesus looked to heaven.
Jesus sighed deeply and said “Ephphatha!” - “Be opened”.

Very graphic.
Very organic.
Rather offensive to our minds.

What was Jesus doing?
What Father told Him to do.

The Creator, Jesus, was recreating the mechanism of speech and hearing in the man.

Fingers in ears.
Spit on the tongue.

But, there was more.

Jesus looked to heaven.
He looked to Father.

Jesus sighed.
A picture of something.
His dependency upon Father?
His awareness of the battle?
His awareness of His humanity in the midst of the fullness of the Godhead?

Yes…and more…

What was the outcome?

The man’s ears were open.
The impediment on his tongue (demonic? likely) was removed.
He began to speak plainly.

The response of the people?
Utterly astonished at Jesus…”He has done all things well…deaf to hear, mute to speak”.

The response of Jesus?
Do not tell anyone.

They did not listen.
They told everyone!

Such would occur today, if we believed.
If we looked to heaven.
If we lived by faith.

“Aside…By Himself”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continued to travel.

Note what happens next…

Mar 7:31-37

Again He went out from the region of Tyre,
and came through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
within the region of Decapolis.

They brought to Him one who was deaf and spoke with difficulty,

We see Jesus healing - again.
Again, we do not see Jesus healing “the same way twIce” in Scriptural accounts (at least that i have yet to see&hellipWinking Happy

What was the man’s problem?
Deaf.
Spoke with difficulty…as occurs with deafness.

For today, note how Jesus responded.

Jesus took the man aside from crowd.
Jesus took the man by Himself.

The crowd will always be excited and enamored with “the show’.

Jesus was having no part of a show.

We would do well to give attention to this.

Far too much of what we do is “for the sake of the crowd”…
- attempts to build a crowd
- attempts to please the crowd
- attempts to convince the crowd

Jesus did things differently.

He focused upon the man.
He spent time with the man…alone.

May we do likewise…

“Faith of a Crumb”

August 29, 2017

“Faith of a Crumb”

Blessings folk!

Mom knew what the problem was.
A demon. An unclean spirit.
A demon from the pit of hell was tormenting her young daughter.

She heard Jesus was in town.
She implored the Lord to heal her girl.

Now, read the account again.
Watch what happens.
Watch the conversation.

Mar 7:24-30

Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre.
And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it;
yet He could not escape notice.

But after hearing of Him,
a woman whose little daughter had an unclean spirit immediately came and fell at His feet.

Now the woman was a Gentile, of the Syrophoenician race.
And she kept asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.

And He was saying to her, “Let the children be satisfied first,
for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

But she answered and said to Him,
“Yes, Lord, but even the dogs under the table feed on the children’s crumbs.”

And He said to her, “Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left.

The woman was a Gentile.
This is important information for understanding Jesus’ response.
She kept asking Him.
Apparently He was not responding quickly enough…if at all.

Jesus finally said “let the children be satisfied first for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

Whoa!!

What was Jesus saying…inferring?

The woman knew.
They all knew.

The “children” would be a reference to the Jews.
The Lord came to the Jews first.
They may not have understood this.

The next reference was clear.
Jews called Gentiles “dogs”.

Jesus was not insulting the woman.
He was acknowledging who she was and how they all behaved.

Jesus was simply stating that the Jews would “get the first shot”.

The woman had the classic response.
A response of faith.
She did not debate.
She did not argue.
She did not take offense.
She simply stated the truth…
“Yes”…she agreed with Jesus that she was “a dog”…not Jew. Unworthy.
“Lord”…she declared Him to be Lord. Faith!!
“Even the dogs…crumbs!” Faith of a crumb!

Jesus loved it!
He told her that because of this answer…because of her faith of a crumb…she was to go.
Her daughter would be delivered from the demon.

She left as instructed.
She went home.
She found the child lying on the bed, whole, without demon.

May we have faith of a crumb.

“Momma Cried…”

August 28, 2017

“Momma Cried…”

Blessings folk!

After speaking about the source/things of defilement, Jesus arose and departed.

Read what happened next, then we will consider some things…

Mar 7:24-30

Jesus got up and went away from there to the region of Tyre.
And when He had entered a house, He wanted no one to know of it;
yet He could not escape notice.

But after hearing of Him,

And He said to her, “Because of this answer go; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

And going back to her home, she found the child lying on the bed, the demon having left.

A couple of things for today.

Jesus entered a house.
He desired that no one know that He was there.
Why?
Likely rest, communion with Father.
Yet, He was noticed.

“Jesus” is always noticed when manifest.

Then, a woman heard He was there.
She came to Jesus and fell at His feet imploring Him to cast the demon out of her daughter.

We will look at the balance later.

For now, the mother had accurately diagnosed the problem.
It was a demon.
When was the last time that you heard that as a diagnosis?

We reject demons as the source for illness, sickness, actions, deeds, etc.
We are wrong to do so.

Mom knew the problem.
Mom knew the answer.

How did she know the answer?
She had “heard of Jesus”.

She wanted Jesus to cast the demon out, thereby setting her daughter free.

Oh that we had such faith…

“There Is…Rain”

August 27, 2017

“There Is…Rain”

Believers!
There is something to be seen.
There is something to be heard.
There is something to be gleaned.
There is something to be learned.

Are you watching the impact of Hurricane Harvey?

A couple of things.

At the moment, basic/average folk are providing many rescues via boat.

A picture emerged before me.

In the same way that people are rescuing with the equipment they have…
We as the Body of Christ are to rescue those of the world…before the next, great flood.

The flood of God’s wrath that will poured out on unbelieving mankind.

This should be/will be done in innumerable ways by the Body of the Lord being faithful to Him and moving as His Spirit desires.

I’ll give you an example of something that happened with Harvey.

Someone knew of the weather possibilities in advance…more so than one will hear on “regular” news broadcast.

This was shared with a fellow believer in the Houston area.

They checked it out.
They prepared.
They are better off today because of it.

The Body functioning together.

The Lord speaking…
  • prophetically
  • words of wisdom
  • words of knowledge

Words that change.

We are to do this in all things.

We know from the Word that the Lord…
  • guides the clouds
  • guides the lighting bolt

Job 37:11
“Also with moisture He loads the thick cloud;
He disperses the cloud of His lightning.

 Job 37:15
“Do you know how God establishes them,
And makes the lightning of His cloud to shine?

Job 36:32
“He covers His hands with the lightning,
And commands it to strike the mark.

Job 28:26
When He set a limit for the rain
And a course for the thunderbolt,

Job 37:6
“For to the snow He says, ‘Fall on the earth,'
And to the downpour and the rain, ‘Be strong.’

Isa 5:6
“I will lay it waste;
It will not be pruned or hoed,
But briars and thorns will come up.
I will also charge the clouds to rain no rain on it.”

Jer 10:13
When He utters His voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens,
And He causes the clouds to ascend from the end of the earth;
He makes lightning for the rain,
And brings out the wind from His storehouses.

What is He saying/doing with this storm?
What is He desiring to do through you?

"From the Heart..."

August 26, 2017

“From the Heart…”

Blessings folk!

Look closer…
Think more…
Consider carefully…
The things that Jesus said defile…
The source of the defilement…

Mark 7:20-23
And He was saying,
“That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts,
fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

deeds of coveting and wickedness,
as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.

“All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

What defiles a man is that which proceeds out of him.
What defiles a man is that which proceeds out of his heart.

It is out of the heart that defilement comes in the form of..

  • evil thoughts
  • fornications
  • thefts
  • murders
  • adulteries
  • deeds of coveting
  • wickedness
  • deceit
  • sensuality
  • envy
  • slander
  • pride
  • foolishness

Man needs a new heart.
We need to live with the new heart, refusing to resurrect the desires of the flesh.

The blood of Jesus provides a new heart.

Repent.
Confess.
Rejoice.

"Out of the Man"

August 25, 2017

“Out of the Man”

Blessings folk!!

Yesterday we saw this…

Mar 7:14-15

After He called the crowd to Him again, He began saying to them,
Listen to Me, all of you, and understand:

there is nothing outside the man which can defile him if it goes into him;
but the things which proceed out of the man are what defile the man
.

Then we read this…

Mar 7:16
If anyone has ears to hear, let him hear.”

The disciples wanted to hear.
They wanted to understand.
Yet, they did not.

Read, the rest of the story.

Mar 7:17-23

When he had left the crowd and entered the house,
His disciples questioned Him about the parable.

And He said to them, “
Are you so lacking in understanding also?
Do you not understand that whatever goes into the man from outside cannot defile him,

because it does not go into his heart, but into his stomach, and is eliminated?”
(Thus He declared all foods clean.)

And He was saying, “That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man.

“For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries,

deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness.

“All these evil things proceed from within and defile the man.”

The disciples called the account a “parable”.

Jesus then explains what He meant.
It is not food/drink that a man might use that defiles.
It is what comes out of a man.

You read the list.
Read again.
Check yourself.
Allow the Spirit to reveal and adjust.

“Defiled: Listen. Understand.”

August 24, 2017

“Defiled: Listen. Understand.”

Blessings folk!

It is often said that we should live as Jesus did, that we should treat people as Jesus did.
Yes!

We often want the “lovey-dovey” part of that thought, but we do not want the other aspect.

Jesus boldly, strongly, intensely corrected folk.

Sinners He called to repentance in love.

Religionist He dealt with fortnightly, pulling no punches.
He called them hypocrites.
He used very colorful terms to reveal their hearts.

He has just done so with a group of Pharisees and scribes…the “corban” moment we saw yesterday.

He told them…

Mar 7:13
“You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.
And you do many other similar things.”

Many other similar things.
Not just limited to this one example.

So is the professing organizational church today.
We do “many other things” in the “name of the Lord”, yet all we are doing is nullifying the Word of God and exalting the traditions of man.

We do everything except what the Lord calls us to do.

I could provide a sad list of such…but, let us look at what Jesus did next.

Mar 7:14-15
Summoning the crowd again, he told them, “Listen to me, all of you, and understand:

“Nothing that goes into a person from outside can defile him but the things that come out of a person are what defile him.”

Jesus took the Truth to the people.
Turning from the Religionist, He called the people, all of them, to listen and to understand.

One is not defiled by what goes into him…food/drink.
One is defiled by that which comes out of Him.

Jesus is not speaking of the gastrointestinal process.

He was speaking of what comes out of the mouth - speech.
He was speaking of what comes out through action - deed.

These reveal the true heart of the individual.

The defiled heart produces defiled speech and deed.

The Religionists were manifesting such - as is today.

They looked good.
They appeared to be altogether perfect externally.
Yet, their word and deed revealed the defilement of heart.

May we have eyes to see.
May we have ears to hear.

Religionists!
Repent!
The Lord will give you a new heart…

“Corban”

August 23, 2017

“Corban”

Blessings folk!

Here is a Word we need to hear as the Body…

Jesus was confronting the religious rulers - Pharisees and scribes - with their hypocrisy.

They were concerned about Jesus’ disciples ceremonial washing habits, or lack thereof.

Jesus had told the rulers that they had abandoned the command of God to pursue the traditions of man.

Jesus then gives an example.

Mar 7:8-13
“Abandoning the command of God, you hold on to human tradition.”

He also said to them,
“You have a fine way of invalidating God’s command in order to set up your tradition!

“For Moses said: Honor your father and your mother;
and Whoever speaks evil of father or mother must be put to death.

“But you say, ‘If anyone tells his father or mother: Whatever benefit you might have received from me is corban’
” (that is, an offering devoted to God),

“you no longer let him do anything for his father or mother.

“You nullify the word of God by your tradition that you have handed down.
And you do many other similar things.”

Jesus tells them that they have a “fine way of invalidating God’s command”…a tongue-in-cheek statement of truth.

Jesus then states the reason.
They do so to setup their own tradition.

Jesus gives the example.
Moses/Law stated that they were to honor their father and mother.
Yet, they did not.

How?
They did not take care of their parents.

Rather than meeting the needs of their parents, these religious frauds would call “corban”.
The idea is that whatever resources they had that could meet the need of the parents were being described as “an offering devoted to God”.

They were seeking to get the resources under their control.

The same occurs today.

To hear it in most churches, one would nearly think that “giving” only “counts” if you give through their particular church.

Such is not true.

We do as they did when we act this way.
We nullify the Word of God.

Let us not nullify the Lord by our traditions.
Let us seek Him.
Let us obey Him.
Let us abide in Him.
Then, watch what He does.

“Sign”

August 22, 2017

“Sign”

Blessings folk!

Still chasing the rabbit…

You will likely hear, if not already, about “the great Revelation 12 sign” that is “coming” in September.

Have had many ask about it.

It is based upon Revelation 12 and is supposedly fulfilled when certain stars align in the heavens.

The problem is, it is not true…at least not this September. Happy

The “authors” of such take great liberties with the Word and with celestial alignments - both causing error.

I will not go into detail…it is mind-numbing.
But, know this.
We do far better to spend time in the Word rather than spending time manipulating the Word as to attain a “sensational” result.

As we saw yesterday, the celestial bodies are given for day/night, signs, days, seasons.

They are signs.
We are to pay attention.
I pay very close attention in the fall of the year because of varied things the Word says.

For today, read the applicable portion of Revelation 12.

You will see that some has been fulfilled, some is yet to be fulfilled.

Rejoice in that which has occurred.
Rejoice in that which is yet to come.

Rev 12:1-6

A great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun,
with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.

She was pregnant and cried out in labor and agony as she was about to give birth.

Then another sign appeared in heaven: There was a great fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and on its heads were seven crowns.

Its tail swept away a third of the stars in heaven and hurled them to the earth.
And the dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth,
so that when she did give birth it might devour her child.

She gave birth to a Son, a male who is going to rule all nations with an iron rod.
Her child was caught up to God and to his throne.

The woman fled into the wilderness,
where she had a place prepared by God, to be nourished there for 1,260 days.

“Let Them Be For Signs”

August 21, 2017

“Let Them Be For Signs”

Blessings folk!

A little rabbit chase today…

Today is the day of the “Great American Eclipse”.

Many have asked if there is significance to this.
Yes, there is.

Many want to know what the significance is.
I do not know.

I do know that it is not many of the things that you have seen/heard in the media, internet, pulpits, etc.

The Word tells us much about these things.

Look at what the Lord said at the beginning…

Gen 1:14-15

Then God said,
“Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night,
and let them be for signs and for seasons and for days and years;

and let them be for lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth”;
and it was so.

God created the lights in the expanse of the heavens.

Note their purpose…

  • to separate the day from the night
  • for signs
  • for seasons
  • for days and years

This is distinct purpose.

Focusing on one.

The lights int he expanse are given for signs.
Yes, signs.

Nothing is by happenstance.
The Lord is saying something, though not what many will think.

An example.
One of my daughters forward an article yesterday that gave many interesting facts, figures, numerical relationships, etc. related to the eclipse.

That is all fine and well.

But, the writer stated…

The 7 year Tribulation is also known as the Day of the LORD when God enters into judgment with the Gentile nations.

This is a common error.
There is no “Seven Year Tribulation Period”.
There is the great tribulation that occurs in the 70th week of Daniel 9…the “last” seven year period.
The great tribulation is satan’s wrath poured out on Israel/Jews and the Church - Rev. 12.
The Day of the Lord is God’s wrath poured out upon unbelieving man.

When someone does not know this basic, clear truth from the Word, then why give much heed to conclusions they may draw related to other issues?

So, allow the Spirit to discern within you.

Yes, there are signs.
Yes, this is likely one.
Yes, the Lord will give understanding to those who seek Him - Daniel 11.

The Lord has blessed us to live in such a time as this.

Allow His Power and Presence to manifest through you…everywhere.

“Experts”

August 20, 2017

“Experts”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was addressing the question of the Pharisees and scribes…”why do your disciples not observe ritual washing…?”

Jesus called them what they were - hypocrites.
He did so by reminding them of a Word from Isaiah - which Jesus applied to them.
He them told them that they neglected the command of God while holding to the traditions of men.

Jesus continued…

Mar 7:9
He was also saying to them,
“You are experts at setting aside the commandment of God in order to keep your tradition.

Jesus “doubled-down” on them.
He called them “experts” at setting aside the commandment of God.

The “church” is full of such experts today.

Why were they setting aside the commandment of God?
So that they could keep their own tradition.

Again, the same happens today.
Much…most?…of what we do as the Body of Christ falls under the “tradition of men”.

We have become experts at “setting aside/justifying” the command of God to our purpose.

Let us keep the command/traditions of God
Let us set aside the traditions of man that so easily encumber and cause stumbling.

Selah!

“Precepts of Men”

August 19, 2017

“Precepts of Men”

Blessings folk!

So, the Pharisees and scribes were seeking to get an answer from Jesus.
“Why did His disciples not wash according to the traditions of the elders?”

It was a setup…as are many things today.

How did Jesus respond?

Mar 7:6-8
And He said to them, “Rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written:
‘THIS PEOPLE HONORS ME WITH THEIR LIPS,
BUT THEIR HEART IS FAR AWAY FROM ME.

‘BUT IN VAIN DO THEY WORSHIP ME,
TEACHING AS DOCTRINES THE PRECEPTS OF MEN.’

“Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

Jesus quoted the Word, specifically from Isaiah 29:13.

But, before He states the Word, He tells them what they were.
He tells them how they are behaving.
He tells them they are hypocrites.
He confirms that Isaiah was correct in calling them such.
He literally states that they are a fulfillment of the prophetic Word of the Lord spoken through Isaiah some 700+ years before.

How were they hypocritical?

In the same way that people are today.

They honor the Lord with their lips, yet their hearts are far from Him.
They worship the Lord in vain.
They teach as doctrines…truths…the precepts of men.

They gave more heed to the precepts/“truths”/ideas of men than to the truth of God.

Such continues to impact the Body of Christ today.

Much…most?…of what is preached/taught is more related to the precepts of men than the precepts of God.

Let us have nothing more to do with such…

Remember what we saw yesterday…

Col 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men,
according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.

“Traditions of Men”

August 18, 2017

“Traditions of Men”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was teaching the Kingdom.
Jesus was healing the sick and diseased.
The people were flocking to Jesus…to hear…to receive.

What could be wrong with this?
What could go wrong?

We of course, you know that the religionists would show up… just as they do today…

Mar 7:1-5

The Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered around Him
when they had come from Jerusalem,

and had seen that some of His disciples were eating their bread with impure hands,
that is, unwashed.

(For the Pharisees and all the Jews do not eat unless they carefully wash their hands, thus observing the traditions of the elders;

and when they come from the market place, they do not eat unless they cleanse themselves; and there are many other things which they have received in order to observe, such as the washing of cups and pitchers and copper pots.)

The Pharisees and the scribes asked Him, “Why do Your disciples not walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat their bread with impure hands?”

The Pharisees and scribes had traveled from Jerusalem.
Why?
To see what Jesus was doing? Likely.

They apparently gave little heed to the healing.
They gave no attention to the teaching of the Kingdom.
They were distracted by what they saw of Jesus’ disciples.

The disciples did not wash their hands properly.

“Properly” according to what?

The traditions of the elders.

Ah…

The Pharisees and “all the Jews" washed carefully according to the traditions of the elders.
Not according to the Word of the Lord.
Yes, the traditions of the elders was “based upon the Word”, but it added much to the Word.

But, it did not stop with washing.
They observed many other things…many other things they were commanded to do…washing of cups, pitchers, copper pots, etc.

The Pharisees and scribes saw their opportunity.

They demanded of Jesus to know why His disciples did not “walk according to the tradition of the elders…”?

The same occurs today.

The “church” is consumed with the “traditions of the elders”.

Remember, the traditions of God are good.

1Co 11:2
Now I praise you because you remember me in everything and hold firmly to the traditions,
just as I delivered them to you.

The traditions of man are not necessarily the traditions of God.

Mar 7:8
“Neglecting the commandment of God, you hold to the tradition of men.”

 Col 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception,
according to the tradition of men,
according to the elementary principles of the world,

Do not neglect the commandment of God.
See to it…a commandment!… that you are not taken captive by the traditions of men.

“Press On!”

Blessings folk!

Short Word for today…been on road all day…all day…LOL

Phl 3:12-14

Not that I have already obtained it or have already become perfect,
but I press on so that I may lay hold of that for which also I was laid hold of by Christ Jesus.

Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do:
forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead,

I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Forgetting the road behind…
Press on…
Regardless of circumstance…
Regardless of miles…

Press on!

“Wherever…”

August 16, 2017

“Wherever…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus and the disciples arrived to the shore.

Remember, they were initially seeking a time of rest and respite.

When they arrived, the people recognized them and immediately began to bring their sick to Him.

What did Jesus do?
He healed.

Mar 6:54-56
When they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,

and ran about that whole country and began to carry here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to the place they heard He was.

Wherever He entered villages, or cities, or countryside,
they were laying the sick in the market places,
and imploring Him that they might just touch the fringe of His cloak;
and as many as touched it were being cured.

Notice where healing occurred.
Wherever He entered villages, cities or countryside.
In the marketplace.
The sick just wanted to touch Him, believing that they would be healed.
They were healed.
Wherever Jesus was.

Faith.
Belief.
Wherever they went.

Such is the pattern for us.

We are to manifest and proclaim the Truth of the Gospel “as we go” and “everywhere we go”.

Quit awaiting a particular day…a particular time…a particular event…a particular program…a particular presenter.

You as a True Believer are the very Presence and Power of the Most High God everywhere you are.

Allow Him to be…

“The People Recognized Him”

August 15, 2017

“The People Recognized Him”

Blessings folk!

What happens when Jesus arrives?

What happens when the true church is released to function as the Lord designed?

What happens when the people have a true experience with God rather than with religion?

Mar 6:53-55

When they had crossed over they came to land at Gennesaret, and moored to the shore.

When they got out of the boat, immediately the people recognized Him,

and ran about that whole country and began to carry here and there on their pallets those who were sick, to the place they heard He was.

The people came to Jesus.

Upon recognizing that He was present, they ran to and fro gathering the sick and bringing them to Jesus.

Oh that such was today!

Today, rather than moving in the power and presence of the Most High, His Bride seeks to be “relevant”, “attractive”, “seeker-sensitive”, “non-threatening”, “entertaining”…I could go on and on.

We are called to be His Presence.
We are called to be holy as He is holy.

Then, He will do as He desires through His Body.
But, only if we quench not the Spirit.
Only if we abide Him.
Only if we obey.

May we recognize and run to Him.
May others do likewise.

“They Had Not Gained Any Insight”

August 14, 2017

“They Had Not Gained Any Insight”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was on the mountain praying.
The disciples were in the boat straining.
Jesus decides to go ahead of them.

Now…read, watch…is there a phrase that grabs your attention?

Mar 6:48-52
Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them, at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea; and He intended to pass by them.

But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed that it was a ghost, and cried out;

for they all saw Him and were terrified.
But immediately He spoke with them and said to them,
“Take courage; it is I, do not be afraid.”

Then He got into the boat with them, and the wind stopped; and they were utterly astonished,

for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves,
but their heart was hardened.

Did Jesus intend to pass them by so as to not terrify them?
Did Jesus intend to pass them by so as to reveal some things about struggling in the flesh?

Regardless, they all saw Him walking on the sea.
They were terrified supposing it was a ghost.
They cried out!

Jesus immediately responded…
Take courage.
Be not afraid.
It is I.

Words of comfort, courage, and correction.

The wind was still pressing against the boat.

Jesus entered the boat with them and the wind stopped.

They were astonished.

Why?

This is the thought that had my attention today…they had not gained any…any!…insight from the incident of the loaves.

They gained no insight from Jesus multiply their resources to meet the need.
They gained no insight from the leftovers.

Why?

Their hearts were hardened.

Wow.

After being with Jesus…
After seeing all that had been done to this point…
Their hearts were still hardened.

A hard heart will…

  • blind
  • deceive
  • misdirect
  • lie
  • bring doubt
  • metastasize into a religious spirit

Be not blind to the ways of the Lord.

“Pass By Them”

August 13, 2107

“Pass By Them”

Blessings folk!

Jesus sent the disciples onward via the water route.
Jesus sent the crowd home.
Jesus went to the mountain to pray.

Now, a very familiar story.
Let us take it a bite at a time.

Read and note the details…

Mar 6:47-48

When it was evening, the boat was in the middle of the sea, and He was alone on the land.

Seeing them straining at the oars, for the wind was against them,
at about the fourth watch of the night He came to them, walking on the sea;
and He intended to pass by them.

It was evening.
The boat was in the middle of the sea.
The disciples were having a difficult time because the wind was against them.
They should have been further along.

Jesus could see them from the mountain.
They were straining.

So, what did Jesus do?
What was Jesus’ plan as to how to reunite with them?

He would walk to them.
On the water.

He came to them…late in the night…the fourth watch.
He was walking on the water.
He intended to pass by them.

Why?

Why not stop and help?
Why not calm the sea…as He had done before?

As in all things, Jesus only did what Father told Him to do…John 17.

Why pass them by…?

“He Left For the Mountain to Pray”

Blessings folk!

Remember the context.

The disciples that Jesus had sent forth had returned with a good report.
Jesus was taking them or a time of rest and respite.
They were followed by the crowd.
Jesus fed the crowd - the 5000.

Now, look at what Jesus does…

Mar 6:45-46
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away.

After bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray.

Jesus sent the disciples ahead of Himself to the other side…to Bethsaida.
He did so immediately after they gathered the leftovers.

Why?

To give the disciples rest.
To keep them focused.

Also, Jesus was doing a couple of things.

He sent the crowd away.
As the Word said “He, Himself…”.
Can you imagine that departing blessing?

He would not have “shooed” them as some animal.
He would have loved and blessed them.
He bid them farewell.

Then, Jesus went to spend time with Father.
He went to the mountain to pray.

Wonder why a mountain?
You see Jesus doing this often.
It is not so that “He could be closer to God”.
It is for a time of isolation, privacy, intimacy.

While the world slept…
While the disciples journeyed…
Jesus prayed…

“Took, Looked, Blessed, Broke, Gave”

August 11, 2017

“Took, Looked, Blessed, Broke, Gave”

Blessings folk!

One last look at Jesus meeting the need of a hungry, large group.

What principles do you see for us?

Mar 6:35-44
When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said,
“This place is desolate and it is already quite late;

send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said to Him,
“Shall we go and spend two hundred denarii on bread and give them something to eat?”

And He said to them, “How many loaves do you have? Go look!”
And when they found out, they *said, “Five, and two fish.”

And He commanded them all to sit down by groups on the green grass.

They sat down in groups of hundreds and of fifties.

And He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up toward heaven, He blessed the food and broke the loaves and He kept giving them to the disciples to set before them;
and He divided up the two fish among them all.

They all ate and were satisfied,

and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.

There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.

Truths that arrest my attention today…

  • It was late, desolate…the disciples wanted to send the folk away
  • Jesus tells the disciples to feed the folk…impossible with what they had
  • The disciples gave what they had to Jesus
  • Jesus organized the folk…into varied sized smaller groups…hundreds/fifties. A picture/principle for us.
  • Jesus…
    • questioned them as to resource
    • told them to “go look” at what they had
    • took the food
    • looked to heaven
    • blessed the food
    • broke the loaves
    • divided the fish (a distinction?)
    • gave to the disciples to set before the people
  • all ate
  • all were satisfied
  • twelve baskets of leftovers remained…bread and fish…a basket for each apostle

This is how we are to distribute the “bread of life”.
This is how we are to live.

Take…of the bread of life…of what the Lord has for each of us.
Look…to the Lord in all things.
Bless…see the blessing in all things…give thanks.
Break…cling not to anything but the Lord….grow exponentially.
Give…share with all.

Why do we not?

“Five and Two…”

August 10, 2017

“Five and Two…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus had to the disciples to meet the need of the people.

Gulp!

Read again.
Note what happened.
How the need was met.
Who was involved.

Mar 6:35-44
When it was already quite late, His disciples came to Him and said,
“This place is desolate and it is already quite late;

send them away so that they may go into the surrounding countryside and villages and buy themselves something to eat.”

But He answered them, “You give them something to eat!” And they said to Him,

and He divided up the two fish among them all.

They all ate and were satisfied,

and they picked up twelve full baskets of the broken pieces, and also of the fish.

There were five thousand men who ate the loaves.

Here are the bullet points…

  • Jesus used what was available to meet the need.
  • He does the same today.
  • He uses us.
  • He provides all that is needed.
  • Multitudes were fed with “barely enough for two” - such is the way of the Lord.
  • Through Jesus
  • Via His disciples.

Fret not over resources.
Fearlessly live in faith.
The Lord will provide.
The Lord will move.

Simply abide in Him and do as He leads.

The multitude will be fed.

One thought for now.

The disciples acted like we often do. “It is late…
“It is desolate…
“It is time to go…
“Send them out to get their own food…

Jesus was having nothing to do with it.

His response?

“You give them something to eat”.

“Secluded…Crowd…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus was taking the disciples to a secluded area.
They needed rest.
They set sail for the other side of the body of water.

But, watch what happens…

Mar 6:32-34
They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.

The people saw them going, and many recognized them and ran there together on foot from all the cities, and got there ahead of them.

When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd, and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd; and He began to teach them many things.

The people saw them leave.
Many people recognized them.
So, the people ran ahead…around the land mass/shore…and arrived ahead of them!

When Jesus went ashore, what did He see?
A large crowd.

Did He send them home?
Did He tell them that He had already “put in His forty hours”?
(You would not believe how many “professional ministers” have that attitude. True.)

Of course, He did not.

Jesus felt compassion.
The people were as sheep without a shepherd.

He began to teach them many things.

Rest would come later.

“A Secluded Place…”

Blessings folk!

John the Baptist’s disciples heard that he had died.
They came and took his body and buried him.

Read what happens next…

Mar 6:30-32
The apostles gathered together with Jesus;
and they reported to Him all that they had done and taught.

And He said to them, “Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while.”
(For there were many people coming and going, and they did not even have time to eat.)

They went away in the boat to a secluded place by themselves.

Remember the context.
The story of John the Baptist was expanded as an account.
The apostles had been…

  • preaching that men should repent
  • casting out demons
  • healing sick people, anointing them with oil
  • making the name of Jesus well known

Herod had heard this and was frightened that it was John the Baptist risen from the dead.

Now, the apostles return.
They gather to Jesus.
They report to Jesus all that had been done and taught.

What did Jesus tell them to do?
“Come away by yourselves to a secluded place and rest a while”.

They had been so “busy” that they had not even had time to eat.
Many were the people coming and going.

Jesus was taking them away via boat…to a secluded place.

The Lord does the same today.

He will lead to secluded places for time of respite.

It may be for a short period of time.
It may be for a longer period of time.
Rest in the Lord as He leads.

“Head On A Platter”

Blessings folk!

So, if Herod knew that John was a holy and righteous man…
If Herod was perplexed by John…
If Herod enjoyed listening to John…

Then, how did Herod come to the point of killing John?

The Scripture is provided below…read it again. Repetition is the heart of understanding!

Watch…

Well, there came a strategic day.

Why strategic?

It was the day that Herod’s pride and hubris cost John the Baptist his head.

Herod had a banquet for his lords and military commanders.

Herodias’ daughter provided the entertainment.

She so pleased Herod that he offered her anything…anything up to half his kingdom.
He made the promise in front of all.

The daughter went and checked with mom.

Mom said, the “head of John the Baptist.”

Why?

She was angry with John.
He was speaking the truth about Herod and her relationship.

Herod was “very sorry”.
He was unwilling to ignore the oath he had made in front of all.

The deed was done.
Herod commanded the executioner.
The executioner beheaded John.
The head was placed on a platter.
The platter was given the girl.
The girl gave the head on the platter to her mom.

John lost his head to save Herod’s face.

Sadly, the same thing happens today in the Body of Christ.
We do many ungodly things to “save face”.
Quit.

Mar 6:14-29
And King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead,
and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

But others were saying, “He is Elijah.”
And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

But when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”

For Herod himself had sent and had John arrested and bound in prison on account of Herodias, the wife of his brother Philip, because he had married her.

For John had been saying to Herod, “It is not lawful for you to have your brother’s wife.”

Herodias had a grudge against him and wanted to put him to death and could not do so;

for Herod was afraid of John, knowing that he was a righteous and holy man, and he kept him safe. And when he heard him, he was very perplexed; but he used to enjoy listening to him.

A strategic day came when Herod on his birthday gave a banquet for his lords and military commanders and the leading men of Galilee;

and when the daughter of Herodias herself came in and danced,
she pleased Herod and his dinner guests; and the king said to the girl,
“Ask me for whatever you want and I will give it to you.”

And he swore to her, “Whatever you ask of me, I will give it to you; up to half of my kingdom.”

And she went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?”
And she said, “The head of John the Baptist.”

Immediately she came in a hurry to the king and asked, saying,
“I want you to give me at once the head of John the Baptist on a platter.”

And although the king was very sorry,
yet because of his oaths and because of his dinner guests,
he was unwilling to refuse her.

Immediately the king sent an executioner and commanded him to bring back his head.
And he went and had him beheaded in the prison,

and brought his head on a platter, and gave it to the girl; and the girl gave it to her mother.

When his disciples heard about this, they came and took away his body and laid it in a tomb.

Yesterday we saw the account of Herod and the death of John the Baptist…reprinted below.

Herod was terrified.
He had sinned.
He had taken his brother’s wife, Herodias.
John the Baptist had confronted Herod about it.

Herod did not repent.
He held a grudge against John and wanted to put him to death.
Yet, he was perplexed.
Herod knew that John was holy, righteous.
Because of this, Herod kept John safe.
Herod also enjoyed listening to John.

All was going well…until a day…which we will look at tomorrow.

For today, know that many do as Herod.
They are interested in the Word of Truth, yet they have not repented nor believed.
They enjoy listening, but they refuse to believe to conversion.

Such will not do well before the throne of judgment…

“John the Baptist From the Dead…”

Blessings folk!

The twelve were sent by Jesus to preach.
They did.
They preached repentance.
They cast out demons.
They healed.

Word was spreading.
People were wondering.

At this point we see a convergence of a past event with current events.
Herod heard.
Herod was worried.
Why?

We will see…in detail…

For today, note what the people were thinking and saying…

Mar 6:14-16

And King Herod heard of it, for His name had become well known; and people were saying, “John the Baptist has risen from the dead,
and that is why these miraculous powers are at work in Him.”

But others were saying, “He is Elijah.”
And others were saying, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets of old.”

But when Herod heard of it, he kept saying, “John, whom I beheaded, has risen!”

Many believed that “He” - Jesus - was John the Baptist raised from dead.
They believed that was the reason for the miraculous powers.

Others believed its was Elijah.

When Herod heard, he was in a panic.
He had killed John.
Now, he believed, John was raised from the dead.

The people/Herod had no problem believing that someone had been raised from the dead.
They were seeking for some explanation for what they are seeing/hearing about.

Yet, they still did not now Who Jesus was.

So is today…

“Heal Them”

August 2, 2017

“Heal Them”

Blessings folk!

Jesus sent the twelve out by pairs.
He gave them authority over unclean spirits (think on that..)
He gave them instruction…take not provisions…food, bag, money, no extra tunic, wear sandals, stay in the house you enter in each town.

The twelve did so.

What did they speak?

Mar 6:12-13
They went out and preached that men should repent.
And they were casting out many demons
and were anointing with oil many sick people and healing them.

They preached that men should repent.
We should do likewise. Preach it.

But, they did not come in Word only.
They had deed.
They cast out many demons.
They were anointing with oil many sick people.
They were healing the sick people.

Note that they were not “praying that God would heal them”.
They healed them!
They went forth in the power and name of the Lord and did what the Lord told them to do.
They healed.

Too often we ask God to do that which He desires to do through us.
We ask, yet we do not do.

Why?
Fear.
Pride.
Lack of faith.
Lack of knowledge/understanding of Who the Lord is and who we are in Him.
Etc. etc.

Give close attention to what we see in the Gospels, the way Jesus did things, the way the disciples did things.

What if we were to simply do the same?

I suspect an outpouring of the Kingdom would come forth.

“Take Nothing…”

August 1, 2017

“Take Nothing…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus now began to send forth folk…

Mar 6:7-11

And He summoned the twelve and began to send them out in pairs,
and gave them authority over the unclean spirits;

and He instructed them that they should take nothing for their journey, except a mere staff
—no bread, no bag, no money in their belt—

but to wear sandals; and He added, “Do not put on two tunics.”

And He said to them, “Wherever you enter a house, stay there until you leave town.

“Any place that does not receive you or listen to you, as you go out from there,
shake the dust off the soles of your feet for a testimony against them.”

Jesus instructed them.
They were to go out in pairs, two by two.

They were to travel light, only a staff.

They were to not take any…

  • bread
  • bag
  • money
  • extra tunic

They were to enter into a house and stay there.
Not move from one to another.

If they were not received by any place, then they were to shake the dust from their shoes.
Such would testify against them.

The Lord would provide basic sustenance.
The Lord would provide the Words.
The Lord would bring salvation and judgment.

Their…our!…role is to faithfully proclaim the Kingdom.
