"But God..."

July 22, 2010

But, God...

Blessings folk!

A wonderful phrase to chase around in the Word is “but God.”

Hear a some examples…

Luke 5:21
And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone?

Luke 16:15
And he said unto them, Ye are they which justify yourselves before men; but God knoweth your hearts: for that which is highly esteemed among men is abomination in the sight of God.

Acts 7:9
And the patriarchs, moved with envy, sold Joseph into Egypt: but God was with him,

Acts 10:28
And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

Acts 13:30
But God raised him from the dead:

Romans 5:8
But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

1 Corinthians 1:27
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;

1 Corinthians 3:7
So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.

1 Corinthians 10:13
There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Keep this in your heart - but God.

Undergoing temptation? ...but, God…
Undergoing trials?...but, God…

Rejoice in this example that happened yesterday.

Erin was told by the physician that their might be some problems...might be some initial evidence of things to come down the road...may not be able to have more children...etc.

She was to have a procedure yesterday, somewhat preemptive in nature...scary.

She cried out before the Lord.
We joined with her.
Tears before the Lord.
Crying out.

In these situations one becomes more aware of death/mortality on the horizon.

But, God…

Upon final examination prior to the procedure something was discovered.

New life.

She is with child.

Where disease was expected, life was found.

But, God…

We are rejoicing.

Most of the professing Body of Christ will give lip service to belief that God can/will heal, yet they negate their belief by their deeds.

Do we really believe?

Do we believe that God heals?
Do we believe that there is an evil realm with malicious plans for our lives?
Do we believe that the name of the Lord will deliver of demons?
Do we believe that the Lord empowers us to live holy?

Doubt not.

Trust in the Lord.
Do not live in unbelief.

Rejoice in “but, God...”

“Written Aforetime”

Blessings Folk!

What do you do when you need encouragement?
Shop?
Eat?
Seek ‘amusement’?
Work?
‘Go somewhere’?
‘Do something’?

Where do you find hope?
In events yet to come?
In diversion?
In fantasy?

Do you ever wish you had more wisdom?
Ever desire more knowledge?

Hear the Word of the Lord.

God has provided all that we need.

Need encouragement?
The Lord provides.

Need hope?
The Lord provides.

Need wisdom...knowledge?
The Lord provides

How?

Rom 15:4
4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
KJV

The things which were written aforetime...what we call the Old Testament...were written for our learning.

In the Scripture, yes Old and New Testaments, we find comfort, instruction, learning, patience, perseverance and endurance.

Let me give you a couple of other English versions…

Rom 15:4
4 For whatever was written in earlier times was written for our instruction, so that through perseverance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.
NASU

Rom 15:4
4 For whatever was written before was written for our instruction, so that through our endurance and through the encouragement of the Scriptures we may have hope.
(from Holman Christian Standard Bible® Copyright © 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2005 by Holman Bible Publishers.)

The Word of the Lord provides comfort and encouragement so that we can persevere in the patience of the Lord.

We endure through His Word.

That is the reason that we examine and learn the Word.

We are in the midst of a 10-course study of a portion of the Old Testament (we will resume after labor day.)

Folk wonder why we should know the Old Testament.

It was written for our instruction.
It was written for our learning.
It was written for our comfort.
It was written so that we might have hope.

Comfort, hope, patience, learning, instruction, etc. will not be found in the amusement of the world, nor will they be found in the necessities of work, nor in relationships of the flesh.

One last verse related to this…

1 Cor 10:11
11 Now these things happened to them as an example, and they were written for our instruction, upon whom the ends of the ages have come.
NASU

Spend time before the Lord today in His Word.
Listen.
Rejoice.

Blessings!!

"50th Anniversary"

“50th Anniversary”

Blessings Saints!

Yesterday I attended the 50th anniversary of the first church that allowed me to be “minister of music”.

It was a time of worshipping the Lord through music, historical account and a challenging word for the future. (“Be courageous. Do not be dismayed.” Hummm… where I have heard that before&hellipWinking

The time together, and the days leading to it, brought constant pauses of reflection.

The gentleman leading the worship was a year old baby when I went to the church. Happy

Several of my best friends have gone to glory...one with a lingering illness...three suddenly...one day fine, the next day better…in glory.

All the “children and youth” are aged 40’s and 50’s.

I realized that I am now older than the old people then were...does that make sense?

Truly, time does pass quickly.

Ecclesiastes 3:11
He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Some thoughts for us today…

Ask yourself…
Seek the Lord…

Is what you are doing at this very moment significant for the Kingdom?

Now, don’t listen to the lie of the evil one.
He would have us believe that we must be famous, doing some “big” thing.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

The life of the Kingdom is…
the giving of a cup of water
the changing of the diaper
the listening to the hurting
the exhorting of the Body
working to provide
weeping with those who weep
rejoicing with those who rejoice

But, I also know that much of what we believe to be so important will not stand the test of time, nor the fiery judgment of God.

Choose the way of the Kingdom.

The Kingdom is love...God manifested in His Body to His Body and those in the world.

Who knows what the Lord wants to do through you at this very moment...regardless of where you are?

You may be leaving for the second shift...pressing to meet a quota.
You may be taking care of a loved one in their last days.
You may be praying for your family.
You may be searching the cabinets for food to cook for supper.

It is in the obedience of the Lover of God that the work of the Kingdom is done.

You might be plowing fallow ground.
You might be planting a seed.
You might be watering.
You might be tending the crop.
You might be harvesting.

The church at Corinth had division among them...for several reeasons...one of which was that they were choosing sides as to varied leadership and giftedness. Hear what the Spirit of the Lord said to the Corinthians through Paul.

1 Corinthians 1
10 Now I exhort you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all agree and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be made complete in the same mind and in the same judgment.
11 For I have been informed concerning you, my brethren, by Chloe's people, that there are quarrels among you.
12 Now I mean this, that each one of you is saying, "I am of Paul," and "I of Apollos," and "I of Cephas," and "I of Christ."
13 Has Christ been divided? Paul was not crucified for you, was he? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?

1 Corinthians 3
4 For when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I am of Apollos," are you not mere men?
5 What then is Apollos? And what is Paul? Servants through whom you believed, even as the Lord gave opportunity to each one.
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.

It is the Lord Who brings forth the fruit...to His praise, honor and glory.

It is the Lord working through us...if we allow.

The portion of the Body of Christ that I was with yesterday lived in the love of the Lord.
It was evident.

Where do we stand today?
Are we manifesting the love of God every second?
Upon what foundation are you building? Living?

1 Corinthians 3:10
According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon.

Are you ready for the remainder of life?
Are you ready for glory?

I know all my friends were ready.

May we press on and run the race set before us...to the praise and glory of the Lord alone.

Blessings!!

"Be Content"

“Be Content”

Blessings Folk!

Have you learned this lesson of the Lord expressed through Paul?

Phil 4:10-12
10 But I rejoiced in the Lord greatly, that now at last you have revived your concern for me; indeed, you were concerned before, but you lacked opportunity.
11 Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am.
12 I know how to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity; in any and every circumstance I have learned the secret of being filled and going hungry, both of having abundance and suffering need.
NASU

Are you content?

Do you allow circumstances to dictate your emotions, responses, “feelings”?

Paul was thanking believers in Philippi for their help.
Then he declared that he was not speaking from want.

Paul had learned.

Have we?

Circumstances can be difficult.

We decide how we will respond.

Will we trust in the Lord?
Will we hope in the Lord?
Will we rest in the Lord?

I experienced such recently.

Spoke with a young lady...she is expecting a child...a “cart before the horse” situation. Tears were shed.
Knowledge of disappointment expressed.
Difficult circumstance? Yes.
Yet, we know the Lord gives us a place to begin again - read John 8:1-11.
We know that every conceived human is “fearfully and wonderfully made”… all of us are created by the Most High God.
New life is coming.
In the words of the Lord - “go and sin no more.”
So, we...
Rejoice in the new life.
Trust in the Lord.

Immediately after this encounter, we visited a woman in the hospital….ICU...serious cancer...fighting if for three years...last week they opened her up, then closed.
Gave her three to six months to live.

She is facing death.
She wants to raise her children, but, she is also ready for new life.
If the Lord chooses to heal and allow her to remain in this corporeal existence...new life...we will shout hallelujah.
If the Lord chooses to take her to glory...to new life...we will shout hallelujah.
New life is coming.

So, choose to be content.
New life is coming.

How do we do this? The next verse tells us…

Phil 4:13
13 I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.
NASU

Be content.
Be not in despair.
Go and sin no more.
Live in the strength of the Lord.

Rejoice in the new life of each breath.
Rejoice in the new life yet to come.

Blessings!

"Do You Know..."

Do you know…

  1. That Congress just “deemed” a non-existent, faux budget to have passed?

Why? So they will not have to vote on it better the fall election.

God is in control.

Fear not!
Be not dismayed.
The battle is the Lord.

"Another"

July 1, 2010

“Another”

Blessings folk!

I continue to be drawn to a thought that we have covered many times before.
I believe that it is a clarion call to the Body of Christ today.

A day does not pass that I am not challenged by this truth.

The challenge often comes through the various communications of the day with different communities - emails, tweets, Facebook posts, website, new sources…

If one were suddenly to appear in our community…
If one had no knowledge of “church”
Then one would assume that the Kingdom of God consists of:
  • buildings
  • programs
  • activities
  • theological pride
  • theological arguments
  • “purist isolationism” (we have the truth...everyone else is wrong)
  • pursuit of material things (if you do right, God will give you stuff!)
  • adoration of select individuals (idol worship of “my pastor&rdquoWinking
  • manipulation of people...in the name of the Lord (literally witchcraft)
  • debt...in the name of the Lord (What part of Proverb 22:7 do they not understand. “The rich rules over the poor and the borrower becomes the lender's slave.&rdquoWinking
  • slick charlatans who promote themselves and their strategies...in the name of the Lord
  • “pumped” (how many times have I heard leadership use that word?) for the “worship service”

Folk, none of this should surprise us.

The Lord warned us.

He told us about the charlatans… (Read all of 2 Peter soon)

2 Peter 2
1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
3 And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.
He told us about the arguments

2 Timothy 2
16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

I could go on...and on...an on…

But, hear what the Lord says…

John 13
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

All men will know we are the disciples of the Lord Jesus by our love one to one another.

Not by our love of God!
By our love one to another.

Not by good deeds.
By our love one to another.

Not by...anything…
By our love one to another.

If we are not loving one another empowered by the Holy Spirit then we are fools.
We are deceiving ourselves.
We are false believers before the world.

No wonder that I can state, without reservation, that the number one reason that folk in our community do not “go to church” is “because they have been there.”

Too often those professing to “be the church” look/behave no different than those of the world.

Today, if you are a believer, manifest the Holy Spirit to all...especially one to another.

Love one another.

Wait!

Who are “one another”?

Tomorrow… Happy Happy
