The Word: Episode 1398 Proverbs 11:12-31

“Walk. Redeem.”

August 31, 2020

“Walk. Redeem.”

Blessings folk!

The Lord continues with more instruction…

Eph 5:15-16

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise,

making the most of your time, because the days are evil.

We are told to “be careful” as to how we walk.

This is the major theme of the last half of the book of Ephesians - “How Do You Walk the Walk You Talk”.

How do we walk out who we are…what is taught in Ephesians 1-3?

We walk carefully.
Not if fear.
Not in distraction.
Not as the world.
But, carefully in the Spirit.

We walk as wise men (not “wise guys”!).

Then, we do this.

We make the most of our time.
I like the KJV translation - “redeeming the time”.
The Greek word for “redeeming” means to “ransom”, “to rescue from loss”.
We are blessed with Life from the Lord.
Life that exists within a timeline.
Every moment is significant.
Every breath important.

We must make the most of our time.
Why?

Because the days are evil.

What does that mean?

We as Believers are the very Presence and Vessels of the Most High God.
We image Him in all things.
Our very Life does battle against evil.
We dare not do any thing that would not redeem the time we have.
Time to manifest righteousness.
Time to stand against evil.

Be careful.
Walk wisely
Redeem the time.
Walk in holiness standing firm against evil.

“Exposed By the Light”

August 30, 2020

“Exposed By the Light”

Blessings folk!

Consider the overall thought…

Eph 5:11-14

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;

for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

But all things become visible when they are exposed by the light,
for everything that becomes visible is light.

For this reason it says,
“Awake, sleeper,
And arise from the dead,
And Christ will shine on you.”

We are told to not participate in deeds of darkness.
We are told to expose deeds of darkness

We are children of Light.
We are to walk in Light.

Why?

Because all things become visible when they are exposed by the Light.

Therefore…
Awake!
Sleep not!
Arise from the dead!
Christ will shine on you!

Walk not dimly.
Walk as the brilliant bearer of the Light!

Expose Them

August 29, 2020

“Expose Them!”

Blessings folk!

We continue through the Spirit’s instructions to us in Ephesians 5.

Read these two instructions…

Eph 5:11-12

Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them;

for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.

You see the instructions.

We are told to not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness.
Some of the deeds had been previously detailed.
Secretive deeds so disgraceful that we need not speak of them.

But, then this.

We have a role and responsibility to expose unfruitful deeds of darkness.

It is not “good enough” to not participate in darkness.

We must expose deeds of darkness.

We are children of Light.

Light exposes darkness.

There is much darkness in the world.
There is much darkness within “professing” religious organizations.

Quench not your Light.

Expose darkness through the power of the Lord.

The Word: Episode 1395 Proverbs 2

“Proving…”

August 28, 2020

“Proving…”

Blessings folk!

Let’s look at the complete thought now…

Eph 5:7-10

Therefore do not be partakers with them;
for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light
(for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth),
trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.

We are Light in the Lord.
We are to walk as children of Light.

This walk will produce fruit - fruit of Light.
What is the fruit?
Goodness.
Righteousness.
Truth.

Note it is a parenthetical statement.

The last verse tells us “trying to…”.
This means “proving what is pleasing to the Lord”.
Proving how?

Take out the parenthetical statement…

“…walk as children of Light trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord.”

The Authorized version is clear…

Eph 5:10
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord.

Our walk as children of Light is proof of/proves what is pleasing to the Lord.

Whoa!

Are we walking in Light?
Are we pleasing?

“Children of Light”

August 27, 2020

“Children of Light”

Blessings folk!

No immorality, impurity or greed is to be named among the saints!
Saints are those who are True Believers.
“Saints” means “holy ones”!
That is who you are…if you truly believe.

No filthiness, silly talk or coarse jesting.
Such is not fitting for Believers.

Rather, we are to give thanks.

The next verse is a conclusion with instruction…

Eph 5:7
Therefore do not be partakers with them;

We as Believers are not to partake with those that do these things, as well as anything else displeasing to the Lord.

Why?

Eph 5:8
for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light

We were formerly darkness.
But not now.

Now we are Light in the Lord.
Therefore, walk as children of Light.

That is the reason that I speak so often of having a correct understanding of who we are.

True Believers are not just “sinners saved by grace”.
I was a sinner
I was/am saved by the grace of the Lord..
But, the Word now calls us “saints”…holy ones!

We are not “sinners saved by grace” who seek to do good things in the salvation that the Lord has granted until He returns.
We are not “sinners saved by grace” who are “barely hanging on” until the Lord returns.

We are saints/holy ones who choose to sin from time to time.
We do not sin because of “who we are”.
We sin because we choose to, not because we have to by nature.

We are saints of the Most High.
We are the Light of the Lord.
We are empowered to walk as Children of Light..

Let us choose to do so!

“The Wrath of God…”

August 26, 2020

“The Wrath of God…”

Blessings folk!

We saw the instruction/command yesterday.
“Let no one…”

Eph 5:6a

Let no one deceive you with empty words,…

We are personally responsible to see to it that no one deceives us with empty words.

Do not believe just because someone with a “position” states something.
Do not believe just because someone with an “education” states something.
Do not believe just because you do not know and someone thinks they do.

Seek the Words of Life.
Reject the words of man.

But, we need to finish the balance of the sentence/verse…in the context of the passage…

Eph 5:6
Let no one deceive you with empty words,
for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Humm…

So what is being said here?

The wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience - those that are disobedient to God and reject His ways - because of the “these things.”

What are “these things”?

Remember the context.

Read again quickly…

Eph 5:3-6

But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you,
as is proper among saints;

and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting,
but rather giving of thanks.

For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man,
who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Let no one deceive you with empty words,
for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience.

Ah, these are “these things”.
Immorality
Impurity
Greed
Filthiness
Silly talk
Coarse jesting
Idolatry

How does this tie in with “let no one deceive you”?

There will be, and are today, many who will pervert/twist the Word of the Lord.
They will say that things that are clearly taught in the Bible are for a previous generation.
They will say that we are more enlightened, we have better understanding.

Through vain, empty words they will reject the clear teaching of the Lord.
They will deceive themselves and others.

Have nothing to do with such.
The wrath of God will come upon them.

“Let No One…"

August 25, 2020

“Let No One…"

Blessings folk!

The Lord, through Paul, now fires out a command…a directive…an instruction…

Eph 5:6a

Let no one deceive you with empty words,…

We have a role.
We have responsibility.
We are to see to it that no one deceive us with empty words.

Too often we think it is someone else’s responsibility to protect us from deception.
Nope.
We are to “see to it…”.

 Col 2:8
See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, according to the tradition of men,
according to the elementary principles of the world,
rather than according to Christ.

We are to see to it that we are not misled…

Luk 21:8
And He said,
“See to it that you are not misled;
for many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am He,' and, ‘The time is near.’
Do not go after them.

How do we “let no one”?
How do we “see to it”?

By knowing the Word of the Lord.
By walking in the Spirit.
By abiding in the Lord.
By resting and trusting in the Lord.
By the proper functioning of His Body together.

Such will empower and protect us…if we do it.

“This You Know…”

August 24, 2020

“This You Know…”

Blessings folk!

Are you giving thanks in everything?
Note, not giving thanks “for” everything.
We are to give thanks at all times.

Now, remember what we have just read…

Eph 5:3-4

But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you,
as is proper among saints;

and there must be no filthiness and silly talk,
or coarse jesting, which are not fitting,
but rather giving of thanks.

Why this warning?
Why this exhortation?

Eph 5:5
For this you know with certainty,
that no immoral or impure person or covetous man,
who is an idolater,
has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

This is a truth that we know with certainty.
There is no doubt.
If someone is immoral…
If someone is impure…
If someone is covetous…
If someone is an idolater..

They will not inherit the Kingdom Christ and God.

Many profess a “belief”, yet the pattern and practices of behavior in their life reflect otherwise.

Such will not inherit the Kingdom.

True transformation will show a pattern and trajectory in/toward holiness.

“Not Named…”

Blessings folk!

Imitate God.
Walk in Love.

This is what we are to do as Believers.

Paul continues…

Eph 5:3-4

But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you,
as is proper among saints;

and there must be no filthiness and silly talk,
or coarse jesting, which are not fitting,
but rather giving of thanks.

There must be no immorality, impurity or greed among the holy ones, saint, of God.

  • Immorality: sexual sins
  • Impurity: moral uncleanness
  • Greed: Covetousness

There must be no…
  • Filthiness: obscenity
  • Silly talk: foolish talk: “It is that type of speech which betrays a person as foolish.” (Zod.)
  • Coarse jesting: word can be used in a good and bad sense. Quick witted. A turn of a phrase for humor. In this use, it speaks of evil/ungodly speech unbecoming of saints.

There is far too much of all these in the professing body of Christ.
Too much immortality.
Too much impurity.
Too much greed.
Too much filthiness.
Too much silly talk.
Too much coarse jesting.

We must stop such.

Rather, we are to give thanks.

Thanks unto the Lord.

“Walk In Love”

August 22, 2020

“Walk In Love”

Blessings folk!

Believers are called to imitate God as His children.

This is not something we do strictly “in the flesh”.

We do so by the Spirit of the Most High while we live this flesh.

The fullness of the Lord - Father/Son/Spirit - lives in every true believer.

We are thereby empowered to imitate and image the Lord God.

Selah!

We have yet to finish the sentence/thought.

How is this imitating “walked out”?

Eph 5:1-2

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

and walk in love,
just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us,
an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.

Imitating/Imaging is done by walking in love.

Walking in love as Jesus did.

Jesus loved us.
Jesus gave Himself up for us.
Jesus presented Himself as an offering and sacrifice to God.
Jesus offered Himself as a fragrant aroma.

Thus should we.
By His Power.
By His Love.
Walk in Love.

Don’t you love “auto-correct/spell-check” on your digital device?

As I was typing “imitators”, the ole Mac corrected to “initiators”.

Well, that sparked the grey matter.

That is exactly what happens.

When we imitate God as His children, we are “initiating” that which He desires to do.

We are joining with Him to accomplish that which He desires.

As His beloved children, we we are Kingdom vessels of His Presence and Power.

Emulate God.

Initiate His Kingdom.

“Imitators”

August 20, 2020

“Imitators”

Blessings folk!

Paul begins to reach a series of “mini-conclusions” while continuing with instructions.

Eph 5:1
Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children;

“Therefore”…”in light of what we have seen”…

Therefore, we are to imitators of God…even as children imitate parents.

The Greek for “imitator” is mimētēs…from the word miméomai …it literally means to “imitate”, “to follow”.

The older among us will see/remember the old mimeographs…you can see the word.

We are called to imitate God.

We are also told in other portions of the Word that man was made in the image of God.

Gen 1:27
God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him;
male and female He created them.

Not only are made in the image of God, we are made to image God!

Michael Heiser states it succinctly:

Consciously thinking of ourselves as God’s agents—his imagers—means the decisions we make matter. Christians, no longer lost in sin, can fulfill God’s plan with the help of the Holy Spirit. We are here to spread the goodness of life with God and tell people who need the gospel how they can enjoy that too. Our lives intersect with many people. Their memory of those encounters ripples through their lives and through all the people whose lives they touch. We are a glimpse either of life with God or of a life without God. There’s no middle ground.

“Be Kind…”

Blessings folk!

One last series of instructions from Ephesians 4…

Eph 4:32
Be kind to one another,
tender-hearted,
forgiving each other,
just as God in Christ also has forgiven you.

We are to be kind to OneAnother.

What do you think of when you see “kind”?

Probably not what the Greek word means.

The word - chrēstos - means “serviceable”, “good”.
It speaks of being of good use for any need.
It means to furnish what is needed.

Whoa!

We are to live in such a way that every act toward OneAnother will meet the need of the moment.

We are to live good.

We are to live in service to OneAnother.

That would change things…

“Put Away…”

Blessings folk!

The Lord continues to fire off instructions/commandments to Believers in the “how-do-you-walk-the-walk-you-talk” section of Ephesians…chapters 4-6.

Eph 4:31
Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you,
along with all malice.

Put away the things not of the Lord.

Put away bitterness.
Bitterness is the result of not forgiving.

Put away wrath.
Leave wrath to God.

Put away anger.
Be angry, yet do not sin.

Put away clamor - outcry, shouting, crying.

Put away slander - abusive language, blasphemies.

Put away malice - evil, wickedness.

Put away all this.
None belongs in the life of the True Believer.
But, note.
There will be temptation to still commit these things.

Do not do so.

Be filled with the Spirit.
Quench not the Spirit.

“Do Not Grieve. Abide.”

August 17, 2020

“Do Not Grieve. Abide.”

Blessings folk!

Eph 4:30
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

The Holy Spirit.

What do we learn in this verse?

The Holy Spirit is “of” God.
The Holy Spirit is God.
God the Father.
God the Son.
God the Holy Spirit.
The Mystery of Three in One.

The Lord God lives/resides in every True Believer.

The Lord seals us for the day of redemption.
We are “kept” by/for the Lord.
We are sealed in/by/for Him.

Jude 1:1
Jude, a bond-servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James,
To those who are the called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ:

Therefore, we are told to not “grieve” the Spirit.
“Grieve” means to “distress”, “to cause sorrow”, “hurt”, “to make sad”.

We can grieve the Spirit.

How?

By stepping outside of the abiding of the Lord.
The Lord will never abandon us.
But, we can choose to not abide in Him.
Such grieves the Spirit.

Give heed to what the Lord says about abiding in Him…

Jhn 15:4
“Abide in Me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine,
so neither can you unless you abide in Me.

 Jhn 15:6
“If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up;
and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.

 Jhn 15:7
“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.

 Jhn 15:9
“Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you; abide in My love.

 Jhn 15:10
“If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love;
just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.

Abide in the Lord.

Do not grieve Him.

August 16, 2020

“Do Not Grieve"

Blessings folk!

Because we are a “new self” we have been told to…
  • Lay aside falsehood
  • Speak truth to OneAnother
  • Be angry, yet not sin
  • Not allow the sun to go down on our anger
  • Steal no longer
  • Labor
  • Not speak unwholesome words
  • Speak as to edification, give grace to listeners

Now, the next verse…

Eph 4:30
Do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God,
by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Read the verse again.

What do we learn?

We are instructed on something.

We are not to grieve the Holy Spirit of God.

This means the Spirit can be grieved…more on that later.

We also learn that we are sealed by the Spirit for the day of redemption…more later.

So, do not grieve the Spirit that has sealed you for the day of redemption.

“Rotten. Worthless.”

August 15, 2020

“Rotten. Worthless.”

Blessings folk!

Ok Believers!
How are you doing?
Are wholesome words coming from your mouth?

Eph 4:29
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth,
but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment,
so that it will give grace to those who hear.

The word “unwholesome” in the Greek means “rotten”, “worthless”.

Such should not come from our mouth.

Why?

Because, we are the Lord’s.
We are His Presence.
We have the power to speak blessing or curse.

Pro 11:11
By the blessing of the upright a city is exalted,
But by the mouth of the wicked it is torn down.

Jas 3:8-10
But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.

With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men,
who have been made in the likeness of God;

from the same mouth come both blessing and cursing.
My brethren, these things ought not to be this way.

Beloved, speak blessing and exalt the city.
Speak the good edifying word needed at the moment.
Speak the word that will give grace at all times.

“Wholesome. Edifying. Grace. Words.”

August 14, 2020

“Wholesome. Edifying. Grace. Words.”

Blessings folk!

The Spirit, through Paul, continues to exhort.

This one is tough.
This one is hard.
Just when you think you have it conquered…

Eph 4:29
Let no unwholesome word proceed from your mouth,
but only such a word as is good for edification according to the need of the moment,
so that it will give grace to those who hear.

Here are the basics.

We are to only speak “wholesome” words.
We are to only speak words that edify (build up, encourage) the need of the moment.
We are to speak words the give grace to the hearers.

Wholesome.
Edifying.
Grace.

Every word.
Every breath.

Sadly we do not.

Even the sanitized outbursts that we speak need to be put aside…
“Dadgum” (just a transliteration of G*dD**n)
“Dang it” ( “d**n it&rdquoWinking
Etc. etc

The really question that arises is this…”why the need to verbalize some response?”

Some are understandable, still why the need?

Why a verbal response when you hit your thumb with a 12 oz hammer?

I wonder if Jesus ever did that? Hit His thumb.
Carpenters do.,

Wonder how He responded?

We have already seen that we can be angry and yet not sin.

How are we to “be responsive” and yet not sin with our mouths.

Just think’n…

“Steal No Longer”

August 13, 2020

“Steal No Longer”

Blessings folk!

The Spirit, through Paul, continues to fire off instruction to the Body at Ephesus.

Here is the next…

Eph 4:28
He who steals must steal no longer;
but rather he must labor,
performing with his own hands what is good,
so that he will have something to share with one who has need.

Many times these instructions are interesting, especially from our viewpoint.

We assume that folk will “automatically” start “doing what is right”.

Not so.

We all need to be told.
We need to know.

So, if someone was a thief…a vocation world-wide…we just give them fancier names which I will resist listing…then when they believe unto salvation they should stop stealing.

Not only should they stop, they should labor with their own hands…doing what is good.

This actually strikes at several things in our culture.

Too many do not work with their own hands.
They sit at home and await “assistance”.
This is detrimental to the human soul, especially men.

But note one more point.

We are to work.
To provide for ourselves/families?
Yes!
But the reason mentioned here is so that we can have something to share with those in need.
Think on that.

We work to provide and attain so that we can help one another.

That is not the mind-set of the Body of Christ in the western world.

Is should be.

“Do Not…”

Blessings folk!

The enemy and his minions will seek every opportunity.
Especially opportunities that we grant them.

We saw yesterday that anger can give that opening to the enemy.

Most of us probably think wrong about anger.

We live on the extremes of the anger pendulum swing…
  • Anger is good and I have the “right” to be angry
  • Anger is bad and I should never be angry

The Word says otherwise.

It is stated simply…

Eph 4:26-27

BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN;
do not let the sun go down on your anger,

and do not give the devil an opportunity.

There are times when anger is the proper response.
Yet, anger without sin.
“But”, you say, “I can not do that.”
And therein lies the point.

In the flesh we can not.
Anger in the flesh will consume us.
Anger allowed to fester breeds bitterness.

In the Spirit we can.
In the Spirit we lay aside the anger at the end of the day.
In the Spirit we do not give the enemy an opportunity.

Do not sin…
Do not let the sun go down…
Do not give the devil an opportunity.

“Be Angry. Do Not Sin”

August 11, 2020

“Be Angry. Do Not Sin”

Blessings folk!

In light of who we are in the Lord, Ephesians 1-3…
In light of being equipped, Ephesians 4…
Paul fires off a series of instructions, commandments, etc.

Eph 4:25-27

Therefore,
laying aside falsehood,
SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR,
for we are members of one another.

BE ANGRY, AND yet DO NOT SIN;
do not let the sun go down on your anger,

and do not give the devil an opportunity.

We are to:
Lay aside falsehood.
Speak Truth to OneAnother.
Be angry, yet not with sin.
Not allow the sun to go down on our anger.
Not give the devil an opportunity.

Oh yeah, we like that “angry” thing.
Too often we treat it as permission to be mad/angry/etc.
Nope.

Listen to what else the Word says…

Psa 4:4
Tremble (with anger or fear), and do not sin;
Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.
Selah.

Psa 37:8
Cease from anger and forsake wrath;
Do not fret; it leads only to evildoing.

Pro 14:29
He who is slow to anger has great understanding,
But he who is quick-tempered exalts folly.

 Pro 19:11
A man’s discretion makes him slow to anger,
And it is his glory to overlook a transgression.

Ecc 7:9
Do not be eager in your heart to be angry,
For anger resides in the bosom of fools.

Mat 5:22
“But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, ‘You good-for-nothing,’ shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, ‘You fool,’ shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

Mar 3:5
After looking around at them with anger, grieved at their hardness of heart, He said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And he stretched it out, and his hand was restored.

Jhn 2:15
And He made a scourge of cords, and drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen; and He poured out the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables;

There is much more.

Jesus experienced anger, yet He did not sin.

We can experience anger, yet not sin.
Do not let the sun go down on your anger…do not “play” with it in your thoughts.

Why?

Because such behavior opens the door for the enemy…

“Speak Truth To One Another”

August 10, 2020

“Speak Truth To One Another”

Blessings folk!

Have you “learned the way of Christ”?

As a true Believer you have a “new way”.

The Way of Christ…
Lay aside the old self.
Put on the old self.
The likeness of God.
Created in righteousness.
Created in holiness.
Renewed in the spirit of your mind.

It is important to know this.
It is important to remember/live this.

The first word of the very next verse?
“Therefore…”

So, in light of this…

Eph 4:25

Therefore,
laying aside falsehood,
SPEAK TRUTH EACH ONE of you WITH HIS NEIGHBOR,
for we are members of one another.

Because we have laid aside the old self and put on the new self, we are able to…
Lay aside falsehood.
Speak Truth to one another.
Understand that we are members of one another!

“Put Off. Put On”

“Put Off. Put On”

Blessings folk!

Read again…

Eph 4:20-24

But you did not learn Christ in this way,

if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught in Him, just as truth is in Jesus,

that, in reference to your former manner of life,
you lay aside the old self, which is being corrupted in accordance with the lusts of deceit,

and that you be renewed in the spirit of your mind,

and put on the new self,
which in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of the truth.

Truth is in Jesus.
You know Truth…if you have truly heard Him.
You know Truth…if you have truly believed Him.
You know Truth…if you have been taught by Him.

What is the point the Spirit is making here?

In reference to the former life and the current life…

Former life:

  • Put aside the old self
  • Put aside the corruption
  • Put aside the lusts of deceit

Current life;
  • Be renewed in the spirit of your mind…that is an interesting thought
  • Put on the new self
  • Put on the likeness of God provided
  • Put on righteousness
  • Put on holiness
  • Put on Truth

We are new creatures.
We are new creations.
We are renewed in the likeness of God, created in righteousness and holiness of Truth.

“But You Did Not Learn Christ In This Way…”

August 8, 2020

“But You Did Not Learn Christ In This Way…”

Blessings folk!

Remember how the Gentiles/the world walks…
In futility of mind
Darkened in understanding
Excluded from the Life of God because of ignorance in them
Excluded because of hardness of heart
Callous
Given to sensuality
Practicing every kind of impurity with greediness.

Thus is the world.

The Spirit continues through Paul…one long verse.
Read it as a complete thought…

Ah, that powerful word, “but”.
In contrast to the previous.

They had not learned Christ in this way.
They knew to walk not in the path of the Gentiles.
They knew what to do.
Do we?

Lay aside the old self!

“Not As the Gentiles”

August 7, 2020

“Not As the Gentiles”

Blessings folk!

How do “the Gentiles” walk…live?

Eph 4:17-19

So this I say,
and affirm together with the Lord,
that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk,
in the futility of their mind,

being darkened in their understanding,
excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them,
because of the hardness of their heart;

and they,
having become callous,
have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice
of every kind of impurity with greediness.

They are/were:
They are futile in their mind.
They are darkened in their understanding.
They have ignorance in them, because of this they are excluded from the life of God.
They are hard of heart.

They become/became:
They are callous.
They give themselves over to sensuality..
They practice every kind of impurity with greediness.

We are not to walk as the Gentiles/the world.

True Believers are empowered to walk not as the world.
Whether we are Gentile in background.
Whether we are Jew in background.

Once we call upon the Lord for salvation we are new creatures, new creations.
The old is past.
The new is put on and come forth.

Therefore, walk in the new, not in the old.

“I and the Lord”

August 6, 2020

“I and the Lord”

Blessings folk!

Now, read what the Spirit leads Paul to say next…

Eph 4:17-19

So this I say,
and affirm together with the Lord,
that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk,
in the futility of their mind,

being darkened in their understanding,
excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them,
because of the hardness of their heart;

and they,
having become callous,
have given themselves over to sensuality for the practice
of every kind of impurity with greediness.

Notice how Paul states this:
“This I say…” “…and affirm together with the Lord”.

Paul knew what he was about to say from basic truth and life…
He also knew it by the Lord’s affirmation.

Did you catch the commandment?

“Walk no longer as the Gentiles walk.”

When we are transformed by the Most High, we are to no longer live as “the Gentiles” live.

We will look at the details next time.

For now, do you live as “the Gentiles”/the world?

If you are a Believer, then cease the ways of the world.

The Word: Episode 1372 Psalm 71:14-18

“Growth…?”

August 5, 2020

“Growth…?”

Blessings folk!

Did you notice what causes the growth of the Body?

Read again with this question in mind…

Eph 4:14-16
As a result,
we are no longer to be children,
tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men,
by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

but speaking the truth in love,
we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

from whom the whole body,
being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies,
according to the proper working of each individual part,
causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.

Growth occurs when each part of the Body is properly working as an individual in the whole.
Think on that!

Growth occurs when the whole Body is fitted and held together by that which every part supplies.
Think on that!

Growth occurs when each of us grows into all aspect of the Head, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Think on that!

Growth occurs when we speak the Truth in love.
Growth occurs when we are not longer deceived by false doctrine through the trickery of men.

Growth occurs when the Body is equipped in the manner the Lord prescribes.

Now, what does your portion of the Body of Christ do related to “growth”?
Does the “church growth strategy” align with the Word.

Most do not.
Now is the time to do so…

“Grow Up…”

August 3, 2020

“Grow Up…”

Blessings folk!

Do you know the Truth?

Do you speak the Truth in love?

Read again.
Give close attention to the last part…

Eph 4:14-15

As a result,
we are no longer to be children,
tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

but speaking the truth in love,
we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

Speaking the truth in love enables us to “grow up”!

Grow up in all aspects.

Grow up into Him…the Head…Christ.

Think on that for a moment..

If we will do as the Lord directs, His Body will “grow up”, will mature.

We will grow into all aspects of the Lord.

That is profound.

Barely getting my thoughts around it…

“Speaking the Truth in Love”

August 2, 2020

“Speaking the Truth in Love”

Blessings folk!

Are you excited to see these truths?
The Truth that if we do things God’s way He will bless!
The Truth that we no longer have to be tossed about.
The Truth that we no longer have to be deceived.
The Truth that we that we can mature as the Lord desires!

But wait!
There is more! Happy

Ephesians 4:14-16 is one long sentence.
We read 14.
Now, read 14 and 15…

Eph 4:14-15

As a result,
we are no longer to be children,
tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

but speaking the truth in love,
we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

“But”…always a transition to which we pay close heed.

We are to speak the truth in love.
We are to grow up in all aspects into the Lord Jesus.

Think on that.

Too often in the western church, people are “all about the love”, yet they really do not love.
You are not loving someone if you do not tell them the truth.
You are not loving someone if you hold back the truth out of fear of offending.
True love speaks truth in love.

I suspect that we are “loving”/leading many into the lake of fire.

Such should not be.

Know the Truth.
Speak the Truth.
In love.

“As A Result…”

August 1, 2020

“As A Result…”

Blessings folk!

Read again…for the last time. Happy

Eph 4:11-13

And He gave some as apostles,
and some as prophets,
and some as evangelists,
and some as pastor
and teachers,

for the equipping of the saints for the work of service,
to the building up of the body of Christ;

until we all attain to the unity of the faith,
and of the knowledge of the Son of God,
to a mature man,
to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

Now, read the next verse…

Eph 4:14
As a result,
we are no longer to be children,
tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine,
by the trickery of men,
by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

“As a result…”
?

If we do what we see in verses 11-13 we will…

  • No longer be children
  • No longer tossed/carried by every wind of doctrine
  • No longer tricked by men
  • No longer deceived by crafty scheming

The church is immature because we do not do things God’s way.
The church is deceived because we do not know the Truth of the Lord.
The church is “tossed about” by the trickery of men because we do not know the Truth nor the way of the Lord.

He has given us all we need.

Walk in it.
