“Error of Balaam - 14”

Blessings folk!

The Lord has put His Word into the mouth of Balaam…

Num 23:7-10

He took up his discourse and said,
“From Aram Balak has brought me,
Moab’s king from the mountains of the East,
‘Come curse Jacob for me,
And come, denounce Israel!’

“How shall I curse whom God has not cursed?
And how can I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?

“As I see him from the top of the rocks,
And I look at him from the hills;
Behold, a people who dwells apart,
And will not be reckoned among the nations.

“Who can count the dust of Jacob,
Or number the fourth part of Israel?
Let me die the death of the upright,
And let my end be like his!”

Balaam had been “hired” by Balak to curse Israel.
Balaam would receive honor.
Balaam would receive riches.

But, he did not curse.

He spoke the Word of the Lord.

The Word was not a curse.
The Word was not a denouncement.
The Word was a proclamation about Israel:
- A people who dwells apart
- A people who would not be reckoned/counted as among the nations
- A people as numerous as dust
- A people innumerable

Balaam realized what might come through his refusal to curse.
Balaam knew the potential cost of speaking this truth.
Balaam said “let me die the death of the upright, and let my end be like his”.

Again, Balaam…an enigmatic figure.
He did what God said.
He did not do as the Lord said.
He went when the Lord said stay.
He spoke the Word of the Lord rather than the curse that would have brought great reward.

…wonder how this will turn out…?

Oh yeah, remember Jude?

“Error of Balaam - 13, You Shall Speak Such”

January 30, 2020

“Error of Balaam - 13, You Shall Speak Such”

Blessings folk!

Balaam and Balak are on a mountain viewing a portion of the people of the Lord.

Now, read what occurs…

Num 23:1-6

Then Balaam said to Balak,
“Build seven altars for me here, and prepare seven bulls and seven rams for me here.”

Balak did just as Balaam had spoken,
and Balak and Balaam offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

Then Balaam said to Balak,
“Stand beside your burnt offering, and I will go;
perhaps the LORD will come to meet me, and whatever He shows me I will tell you.”
So he went to a bare hill.

Now God met Balaam, and he said to Him,
“I have set up the seven altars, and I have offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.”

Then the LORD put a word in Balaam’s mouth and said,
“Return to Balak, and you shall speak thus.”

So he returned to him, and behold,
he was standing beside his burnt offering, he and all the leaders of Moab.

Balaam told Balak to prepare seven altars.
He was to prepare seven bulls and seven rams for sacrifice

Balak did so.

Balaam and Balak then offered up a bull and a ram on each altar.

Wondering who they were presenting offering to?
The Word does not tell us.
We assume, probably correctly, that Balaam was offering to the Lord God.
But, it is not stated.

Balaam then tells Balak to remain there while he goes to see if the Lord would meet him.

The Lord did meet with him.
There was a conversation…apparently a verbal conversation.
Likely a physical manifestation of the Lord.

Balaam tells the Lord about the seven altars and his offering.

The silence of the Lord is deafening.
Apparently He was not impressed. Happy

He then puts a Word in Balaam’s mouth.
That is interesting.

He tells Balaam…

  • Return to Balak
  • Speak the Word I have put in your mouth

Balaam returned to the place of sacrifice.
He stood by his offering.
The leaders of Moab waited.

The scene is set.

What will Balaam speak?
His word?
The word Balak wanted…a curse?
(Remember, Balaam would receive riches and honor for such)
The Word the Lord placed in His mouth?

“Error of Balaam -12, Steaks”

January 29, 2020

“Error of Balaam -12, Steaks”

Blessings folk!

Balaam had met with Balak.

He now goes with Balak.

Read what happens next…

Num 22:39-41

And Balaam went with Balak, and they came to Kiriath-huzoth.

Balak sacrificed oxen and sheep, and sent some to Balaam and the leaders who were with him.

Then it came about in the morning that Balak took Balaam and brought him up to the high places of Baal, and he saw from there a portion of the people.

Balak offers sacrifice of oxen and sheep…to the gods he worshipped…Baal, et al.

Balak than sent some of the of the sacrifice to Balaam and the leaders with him.

Apparently Balaam received this steak/mutton and ate?

By doing so, Balaam was obliquely participating in the sacrifice.

The next morning, Balak and Balaam went up to the high places of Baal - a primary god - to see a portion of the people that Balak desired to be cursed.

Balaam slowly was going step by step more into the “camp of Baal”.

Beware, this is a strategy of the evil one…to slowly lead into deception those who do not keep their eyes upon the Lord.

“Error of Balaam -11, Balak/Balaam Meet”

January 28, 2020

“Error of Balaam -11, Balak/Balaam Meet”

Blessings folk!

Balaam was continuing with the men.
Even though the Lord had told him not to…initially.
Now the Lord simply gives him “more rope”.

Num 22:34-38

Balaam said to the angel of the LORD,
“I have sinned, for I did not know that you were standing in the way against me.
Now then, if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back.”

But the angel of the LORD said to Balaam,
“Go with the men, but you shall speak only the word which I tell you.”
So Balaam went along with the leaders of Balak.

When Balak heard that Balaam was coming,
he went out to meet him at the city of Moab,
which is on the Arnon border, at the extreme end of the border.

Then Balak said to Balaam,
“Did I not urgently send to you to call you?
Why did you not come to me?
Am I really unable to honor you?”

So Balaam said to Balak,
“Behold, I have come now to you! Am I able to speak anything at all?
The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak.”

Balaam is one of the more enigmatic characters in the Word.
Was he “of God”?
Was he “not of God”?
Was he faithful?
Was he truly of the faith?

Seek to withhold a conclusion until we read the entire account.

In this portion of the Word we see where Balaam and King Balak meet.

Balak is put out because Balaam had not come immediately.
He had been hesitant.

Balak took it as a personal offense.
He took it as a statement from Balaam that Balak could not honor him.

Balaam cuts to the issue.
“I have come now…”
“Am I able to speak anything at all?”
“The word that God puts in my mouth, that I shall speak.”

Balaam was letting Balak know that the only word he could speak was the Word of the Lord.

Remember what Balak wanted.
He wanted a word to curse the people of Israel that were gathered about.

Remember that Balaam seems intrigued by the honor and money…

Wonder what word would come forth…?

Read again…

Num 22:31-34

Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam,
and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand;
and he bowed all the way to the ground.

The angel of the LORD said to him,
“Why have you struck your donkey these three times?
Behold, I have come out as an adversary, because your way was contrary to me.

“But the donkey saw me and turned aside from me these three times.
If she had not turned aside from me, I would surely have killed you just now, and let her live.”

The Angel explains that the donkey saw him in the way and turned aside three times.
This saved Balaam from death.

Think.
The donkey could see the unseen.
Balaam could not see.

Balaam’s response?
He declared he had sinned.
Good.
He explained (excused?) that he did not know that the angel was standing in the way.

Balaam then said “if it is displeasing to you, I will turn back.”
Balaam already knew it was displeasing to the Lord.
He had been told once.
Now the Angel of the Lord comes against him as an adversary.
So, he feigns desire to be obedient?
No,
He wanted an excuse.

The Angel of the Lord told him to “go with the men, but speak only the word which I will tell you.”

That is interesting.

It gives us insight into Who the Angel of the Lord is.

Balaam now sees the Angel of the Lord…

Num 22:31-34

Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam,
and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand;
and he bowed all the way to the ground.

The Angel of the Lord now speaks to Balaam.
He questions - “why have you struck the donkey…?”
He explains - “I have come out as an adversary”
He explains further - “because your way was contrary to me”

Remember, the Lord had told Balaam what to do - not go with the men.
When more men returned, Balaam sought a change of mind from the Lord.
The Lord did not change His mind, but He did give Balaam the opportunity to make his own decision.
Balaam chose to go.
God gave him the rope…

The Angel of the Lord describes this as “contrary to me”.

“Error of Balaam - 8”

Blessings folk!

Balaam is having a conversation with his donkey.
A donkey that has longed served him.

The donkey wants to know why Balaam is striking him.
The donkey declares that he has been faithful.

Balaam wants to know why the donkey has made a mockery of him (Balaam).
Balaam threatens the donkey with death.

An amazing scene.
Remember, two servants were there witnessing all this.

We continue…

Num 22:31
Then the LORD opened the eyes of Balaam,
and he saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand;
and he bowed all the way to the ground.

The Lord opened Balaam’s eyes.
His eyes had been shut to the things in the unseen realm.
The donkey saw things in the unseen realm.
Wonder if that is “natural/common” with animals?

Balaam reacted in the natural…in the flesh…because he could not/would not(?) see what was occurring in the unseen.

He was angry.
He was self-absorbed.
He was full of hubris.
He threatened murder.
He was moving against the will of God.
He was motivated by money.
He was motivated by honor.
He was gifted by God.

Now he sees.

He sees the Angel of the Lord standing in the way.
He sees the Angel of the Lord with sword drawn in hand.

Balaam’s reaction?

He bows all the way to the ground.

What must have been racing through his mind?

Things are not as we think they are.

See with the Spirit.
Respond in the Spirit.
Trust in the Spirit.

“Error of Balaam - 7”

Blessings folk!

We continue look’n at the following…

Num 22:22-30
But God was angry because he was going,
and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the way as an adversary against him.
Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field;
but Balaam struck the donkey to turn her back into the way.

Then the angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path of the vineyards,
with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD,
she pressed herself to the wall and pressed Balaam’s foot against the wall,
so he struck her again.

The angel of the LORD went further,
and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn to the right hand or the left.

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam;
so Balaam was angry and struck the donkey with his stick.

And the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey, and she said to Balaam,
“What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?”

Then Balaam said to the donkey,
“Because you have made a mockery of me! If there had been a sword in my hand,
I would have killed you by now.”

Balaam was furious.
He was mad because the donkey made him look a fool.

It was about to get worse.
The donkey was to speak and correct him.

The Lord opened the mouth of the donkey.
Again, with God, nothing is impossible. (Luke 1:37)
All things are possible. (Matthew 19:26)

The donkey questions Balaam.
“What have I done to you…?”

The donkey then shows his math skills.
“…that you have struck me these three times.”

Balaam considered the donkey’s actions to have been a mockery of him.
Balaam was ready to kill the donkey.

The donkey reasoned as a man.
Balaam responded as a donkey.

May we not do likewise when we face things we do not understand.

Balaam was riding on a donkey.
Balaam had two servants with him…there were witnesses!

The donkey saw the Angel of the Lord.
The Angel was ready for battle.
Sword drawn.
The donkey turned aside
Balaam struck the donkey.

The Angel then blocked the way in a narrow path walled on both sides.
The donkey saw the Angel.
The she-donkey pressed against the wall, pressing Balaam’s foot.
Balaam hit her again.

The Angel of the Lord moved ahead to another spot.
There was no turning to right or left.
The donkey saw the Angel.
This time the donkey simply sat down.
Balaam was furious.
Balaam struck the donkey.

Then, the Lord opened the mouth of the donkey…
The Lord did this.

But God was angry because he was going,

Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field;

The Lord was angry.
The Lord sent the Angel of the Lord to stand in the way of Balaam…to be an adversary against him.
Humm….

The donkey saw the angel.
Balaam did not.

Wonder why?

Could it be because Balaam had his eyes/attention/focus upon the things of the world?

Could it be because Balaam was walking in disobedience?

Could it be that he was after the money, the power, the honor that had been promised?

Such will cloud our vision.
Such will render us blind to the things of the Lord.

We desire for the Lord to be an adversary for us, not an adversary against us.

We saw earlier that Balaam went back to check with God again.
To see if the Lord had changed His mind.
What Balaam was really doing…as we will see…was to discern if there was some way to take the offer presented to him.

The Lord knew all this.
The Lord gave Balaam over to what he wanted.
The Lord told him to go with the representatives.

Num 22:21
So Balaam arose in the morning, and saddled his donkey and went with the leaders of Moab.

Read carefully what happened…

Num 22:22-30
But God was angry because he was going,
and the angel of the LORD took his stand in the way as an adversary against him.
Now he was riding on his donkey and his two servants were with him.

When the donkey saw the angel of the LORD standing in the way with his drawn sword in his hand, the donkey turned off from the way and went into the field;

The donkey said to Balaam,
“Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden all your life to this day?
Have I ever been accustomed to do so to you?”
And he said, “No.”

The Lord was angry with Balaam because he was going.
“But” someone will say. “Did not the Lord tell him to go?”
This is the “giving over element”.

Balaam had already been told what to do.
He was obedient.
Now, like a petulant child, he wanted a different answer.
The Lord simply was saying “do as you want”.

We do likewise.

Seek to not do so.

We continue with the story of Balaam…

Num 22:15-20

Then Balak again sent leaders, more numerous and more distinguished than the former.

They came to Balaam and said to him,
“Thus says Balak the son of Zippor, ‘Let nothing, I beg you, hinder you from coming to me;

for I will indeed honor you richly, and I will do whatever you say to me.
Please come then, curse this people for me.’”

Balaam replied to the servants of Balak,
“Though Balak were to give me his house full of silver and gold,
I could not do anything, either small or great, contrary to the command of the LORD my God.

“Now please, you also stay here tonight,
and I will find out what else the LORD will speak to me.”

God came to Balaam at night and said to him,
“If the men have come to call you, rise up and go with them;
but only the word which I speak to you shall you do.”

King Balak would not take “no” as an answer.

Balak sent more…
More leaders.
More numerous leaders.
More distinguished leaders.

Balak offered more…
More money.
More honor.
More of whatever Balaam wanted.

Balak simply wanted these people cursed so that he could defeat them.

Balaam gave the proper/correct response…
“I can do nothing contrary to the command of the Lord my God”.

But, then Balaam said this…
“Stay here tonight and I will find out what else the Lord will speak to me”.

Why did he say this?

The Lord was using all this to reveal the true heart of Balaam…the error of Balaam.

Balaam was saying “I’ll check with God to see if He has changed His mind…”

Balaam was enticed by the honor, the power, the money, etc.

God gave him over to it.

The Lord said “rise up and go with them, but only the word I speak to you shall you do”.

The Lord had not changed His mind.

He simply gave Balaam over to his desires.

Balaam knew what the Lord wanted.
But, now he thought he had changed the Lord’s mind.

He would regret this.

The Lord would use this.

We continue the account of Balaam…

Num 22:7-14

So the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the fees for divination in their hand; and they came to Balaam and repeated Balak’s words to him.

He said to them,
“Spend the night here, and I will bring word back to you as the LORD may speak to me.”
And the leaders of Moab stayed with Balaam.

Then God came to Balaam and said, “Who are these men with you?”

Balaam said to God, “Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, has sent word to me,

‘Behold, there is a people who came out of Egypt and they cover the surface of the land; now come, curse them for me; perhaps I may be able to fight against them and drive them out.’”

God said to Balaam,
“Do not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed.”

So Balaam arose in the morning and said to Balak’s leaders,
“Go back to your land, for the LORD has refused to let me go with you.”

The leaders of Moab arose and went to Balak and said, “Balaam refused to come with us.”

Balaam received the proposal from Balak.
Balaam sought the Lord.
The Lord answered stating that Balaam was not to go with them.
The Lord explained why.
The people were blessed.
Balaam was not to curse them.
Balaam reported to Balak’s leaders that the Lord refuse to let him go.
So far, so good.
Balaam listened.
Balaam sought the Lord.
Balaam heard from the Lord.
Balaam obeyed the Lord.

“The Error of Balaam - 1”

Blessings folk!

The error of Balaam.

Jude 1:11
Woe to them!
For they have gone the way of Cain,
and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam,
and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

The account of Balaam is really interesting…and longer than most.

Take your time over the next few days.
Let’s read it…

Num 22:1-6

Then the sons of Israel journeyed,
and camped in the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan opposite Jericho.

Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.

So Moab was in great fear because of the people, for they were numerous;
and Moab was in dread of the sons of Israel.

Moab said to the elders of Midian,
“Now this horde will lick up all that is around us, as the ox licks up the grass of the field.”
And Balak the son of Zippor was king of Moab at that time.

So he sent messengers to Balaam the son of Beor, at Pethor,
which is near the River, in the land of the sons of his people, to call him, saying,
“Behold, a people came out of Egypt;
behold, they cover the surface of the land, and they are living opposite me.

“Now, therefore, please come, curse this people for me since they are too mighty for me; perhaps I may be able to defeat them and drive them out of the land. For I know that he whom you bless is blessed, and he whom you curse is cursed.”

We meet the two main characters of the story:

Balak

  • the son of Zippor
  • King of Moab
  • Terrified of the people of the Lord who were now camped in the plains of Moab
  • Filled with dread and fear
  • Sent for Balaam to come and curse the people
  • Believed that who Balaam cursed was cursed, who he blessed was blessed.

Wonder why he believed that?
He knew it to be true.

Balaam
  • Son of Beer
  • At Pethor…near the River…the Euphrates

The Word: Episode 1171 Daniel 8:5-9

“Woe - The Way of Cain”

January 17, 2020

“Woe - The Way of Cain”

Blessings folk!

Jude proclaims “woes” about the creepers…

Jude 1:11
Woe to them!
For they have gone the way of Cain,
and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam,
and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

What is “going the way of Cain”?
Approaching the Lord in any way other than that which He directs.

The next several days we will read the accounts referenced in Jude 11.
Do not skip it.
The Word is important.
Spend time and read it…

Now, the “way of Cain…”.

 Gen 4:1-16

Now the man had relations with his wife Eve, and she conceived and gave birth to Cain,
and she said, “I have gotten a man-child with the help of the LORD.”

Again, she gave birth to his brother Abel.
And Abel was a keeper of flocks, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

So it came about in the course of time that Cain brought an offering to the LORD of the fruit of the ground.

Abel, on his part also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of their fat portions.
And the LORD had regard for Abel and for his offering;

but for Cain and for his offering He had no regard.
So Cain became very angry and his countenance fell.

Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? And why has your countenance fallen?

“If you do well, will not your countenance be lifted up?
And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door;
and its desire is for you, but you must master it.”

Cain told Abel his brother.
And it came about when they were in the field,
that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

Then the LORD said to Cain,
“Where is Abel your brother?”
And he said, “I do not know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”

He said, “What have you done?
The voice of your brother’s blood is crying to Me from the ground.

“Now you are cursed from the ground,
which has opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.

“When you cultivate the ground, it will no longer yield its strength to you;
you will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth.”

Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is too great to bear!

“Behold, You have driven me this day from the face of the ground;
and from Your face I will be hidden, and I will be a vagrant and a wanderer on the earth,
and whoever finds me will kill me.”

So the LORD said to him,
“Therefore whoever kills Cain, vengeance will be taken on him sevenfold.”
And the LORD appointed a sign for Cain, so that no one finding him would slay him.

Then Cain went out from the presence of the LORD,
and settled in the land of Nod, east of Eden.

Cain sought to worship God in the way he wanted rather than the way the Lord had apparently instructed.

Cain’s offering was not received.
Abel’s was.
Cain was furious…his countenance was fallen.

Even after God’s warning…
Even after God’s exhortation/encouragement to turn away from the sin crouching at the door…
Cain still arose, told his brother, then killed his brother.

The “way of Cain” leads to…

  • False worship
  • Rebellion
  • Murder
  • Despair
  • Separation from the Presence of God

Go not the way of Cain…

“Woe to Them”

January 16, 2020

“Woe to Them”

Blessings folk!

Jude now declares three “woes” upon/to the creepers.

These woes continue to describe what creepers did..and do.

Jude 1:11
Woe to them!
For they have gone the way of Cain,
and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam,
and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

It will do us well to check the Old Testament accounts of each of these.
We will do so the next several days.

For now, here is the big picture…

The “way of Cain” is seeking to worship/please God by the flesh, in our own way.

The “error of Balaam” is using the giftedness of the Lord for financial gain.

The “rebellion of Korah” is seeking power, prestige and position to which the Lord has not called us. Rebelling against others.

All three are thriving within the “church” today.

The spirit of Cain…
The spirit of Balaam…
The spirit of Korah…

All deeds of the flesh.

None fruit of the Spirit.

Woe to such.

“Revilers”

January 15, 2020

“Revilers”

Blessings folk!

In Jude 9 we see that Michael knew better than to speak a railing judgment.

He left things to the Lord…

Jude 1:9
But Michael the archangel, when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses, did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

Jude is driving home a point about the creepers.

They did as they desired…

Jude 1:10
But these men revile the things which they do not understand;
and the things which they know by instinct, like unreasoning animals,
by these things they are destroyed.

Look at what creepers do.
They revile…”slander”, “speak profanely of sacred things”
They are mouthing-off about things that they do not understand.

Is this not pervasive today?

Many are the creepers in the organized church…and even in the professing church…who revile.

They revile heavenly things.
They revile things of the Spirit.
They revile things of the Word.
They revile things of the Most High.
They do not understand.
They do not desire to gain understanding.

Creepers act/react instinctively.
They are like unreasoning animals.
These things will destroy them.

Beware and be forewarned that creepers are about.
Yet, fear not.
Simply do as the Lord instructs…

“The Lord Rebuke You”

January 14, 2020

“The Lord Rebuke You”

Blessings folk!

We see saw yesterday that…

Jude 1:8

Yet in the same way these men,
also by dreaming,
defile the flesh,
and reject authority,
and revile angelic majesties.

These creepers act in the same way as the men of Sodom and Gomorrah.
They defile the flesh.
They reject authority.
They revile angelic majesties.

“Revile” means to “blaspheme”, “slander”.
They spoke that way of “angelic majesties” - the Greek word is “doxa”…speak of “weight”, “glory”, “praise”, “honor”.
The context of the next verse brings us the understanding that a majestic being is in sight in this verse.

Continue…

Jude 1:9
But Michael the archangel,
when he disputed with the devil and argued about the body of Moses,
did not dare pronounce against him a railing judgment, but said,
“The Lord rebuke you!”

One very interesting verse.

Who do we see?

  • Michael the archangel…”the”? Yes, archangel over Israel (Daniel 12)
  • Devil
  • Moses’ body…he is dead
  • The Lord

Michael and the devil were disputing and arguing about the body of Moses.

Moses had died.
The devil claimed the right to his body.
Why?
Because Moses had killed.

Michael was apparently sent by the Most High to take Moses’ body,

In the dispute and arguing, Michael did not dare pronounce a railing judgment.

He did not use his power.
He did not judge.

The Lord judges.

Michael stated the fact.

“The Lord rebuke you!”

Rest in the Lord.
Trust not in your own ability.

Allow room for the Lord to avenge.

“In the Same Way These Men…”

January 13, 2020

“In the Same Way These Men…”

Blessings folk!

Jude continues explaining about the creepers…

Jude 1:8
Yet in the same way these men,
also by dreaming,
defile the flesh,
and reject authority,
and revile angelic majesties.

“These men…”
Who?
Creepers

“In the same way…”
Same way as what?
As the angels who did not keep their own domain.
As the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Look at what these men do.

  • “By dreaming…” They do “their own” thing. Whatever the dream.
  • “Defile the flesh” As we have seen…defilement of the flesh is foundational with them
  • “Reject authority” The authority of the Lord and His Word.
  • “Revile angelic majesties”

They seek the things of the flesh.
They reject the things of God.

Oh, they act godly.
They speak “glorious” words that sound good.

Yet, they are false.

Many have crept within the professing Body of Christ.

They are begin revealed.

The Lord will deal with them.

“Strange Flesh”

January 12, 2020

“Strange Flesh”

Blessings folk!

Jude continues to reveal how God has dealt with sinners in the past.
He will avenge the creepers.

We saw that God has kept some angels in eternal bonds under darkness…

Jude 1:6
And angels who did not keep their own domain, but abandoned their proper abode, He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,

Now, the rest of the sentence/thought…

Jude 1:7
just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the cities around them,
since they in the same way as these indulged in gross immorality and went after strange flesh, are exhibited as an example in undergoing the punishment of eternal fire.

“just as…”
“in the same way…”

Jude associates the sin of the angels with the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah.

We know the sin of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Gen 18:20
And the LORD said,
“The outcry of Sodom and Gomorrah is indeed great, and their sin is exceedingly grave.

Gen 19:5
and they called to Lot and said to him,
“Where are the men who came to you tonight?
Bring them out to us that we may have relations with them.”

The sin of Sodom and Gomorrah was homosexuality.
Gross immorality.
Going after “strange flesh”.
Man with man.
Woman with woman.

The Lord says to not do such…

Lev 20:13
‘If there is a man who lies with a male as those who lie with a woman,
both of them have committed a detestable act; they shall surely be put to death.
Their bloodguiltiness is upon them.

Rom 1:26-27
For this reason God gave them over to degrading passions;
for their women exchanged the natural function for that which is unnatural,

and in the same way also the men abandoned the natural function of the woman and burned in their desire toward one another, men with men committing indecent acts and receiving in their own persons the due penalty of their error.

Both, the angels and Sodom and Gomorrah, went after strange flesh.

What did the angels do?

It is this…

Gen 6:1-2

Now it came about, when men began to multiply on the face of the land,
and daughters were born to them,

that the sons of God saw that the daughters of men were beautiful;
and they took wives for themselves, whomever they chose.

Gen 6:4
The Nephilim were on the earth in those days,
and also afterward,
when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men,
and they bore children to them.
Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Rebellious sons of God (“angels&rdquoWinking co-habitated with human women.
Strange flesh.
Out of their domain.

The Lord judged.
The Lord will judge the creepers.

One last thought.
Many creepers also physically go after “strange flesh”…becoming more and more apparent.

“Angelic Abode…”

January 11, 2010

“Angelic Abode…”

Blessings folk!

Jude tells the recepients/us that the creepers will be held accountable…in the way that God did in times past.

Verse 6 is very interesting…

Jude 1:6
And angels who did not keep their own domain,
but abandoned their proper abode,
He has kept in eternal bonds under darkness for the judgment of the great day,

There were angels who did not keep their own domain.

Precisely what/when this occurred we are not told, though I think we have a very good idea.
(We will cross-reference tomorrow!)

For today, note the facts.

Angels have domains.
Some did not keep them.
Some angels abandoned their proper abode.
They stepped outside of their role/functioning into some other domain.

God has these angels now in eternal bonds.
Eternal!
Under darkness!
To a point in time…the judgment of the great day.

The Great Day?

Likely the Great Day of the wrath of God followed by the judgment of God.

What can we glean?

The Lord will punish.
The Lord will judge…in His time.
There was/is rebellion among divine beings.

God will deal with the creepers.
But, be forewarned.
Do not submit to the creepers.
Do not allow them to creep.
Stand firm in the truth of the Lord.

“Unbelievers Destroyed”

January 10, 2020

“Unbelievers Destroyed”

Blessings folk!

Jude told the recipients…and us…that creepers had crept in.

Jude 1:4
For certain persons have crept in unnoticed,
those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation,
ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

He tells us that they crept in unnoticed.
He tells us that they are marked for condemnation…from long ago.
He tells us they are ungodfly.
He tells us they turn the grace of god into licentiousness.
He tells us they deny Jesus Christ, our only Master and Lord.

Jude continues by reminding them of things from the Scripture, the Old Testament from their perspective.

He does so by recounting events from their past.

Events that will give insight to the creepers.
Events that will reveal what God did and will do.

Jude 1:5
Now I desire to remind you,
though you know all things once for all,
that the Lord,
after saving a people out of the land of Egypt,
subsequently destroyed those who did not believe.

This verse is a concise, succinct explanation of God delivering His people from Israel.
He delivered them.
He saved them.
Yet some did not believe.
He destroyed those who did not believe.

(What did they not believe? That God could/would deliver the land promised to them.)

The Lord will deal with unbelievers.
The Lord will deal with creepers.

“Creepers: You Can Recognize Them”

January 9, 2020

“Creepers: You Can Recognize Them”

Blessings folk!

Jude was concerned.

He wanted to write to some believers about their common salvation.

But something else needed to be addressed.

Creepers had crept in.

Many, if not most, of those receiving the letter were believers of Jewish background.

How do I know?

Because of the references, illustrations, etc. that Jude uses.
We will see.

Know this.

Creepers continue to creep into the church.

“Mainstream” denominations - Episcopal, Presbyterian, et al - have seen/experienced this.

The United Methodist are currently reaping the fruit thereof.

Creepers:
  • Creep in unnoticed
  • Marked out for condemnation…long ago
  • Ungodly persons
  • Turn/pervert the grace of God

Jude 1:4
For certain persons have crept in unnoticed,
those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation, ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

We will review later the balance of what is said in Jude.

For now…

We can/will know them by their fruit…

  • Fruit of the Spirit
vs
- Deeds of the Flesh

Mat 7:20
“So then, you will know them by their fruits.

The Lord empowers believers with the gift of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit will gift some in the Body with:

  • Word of Wisdom
  • Word of Knowledge
  • Discerning of spirits

1 Co 12:8
For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit,
and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;

1Co 12:10
…to another discerning of spirits;…

The Body of Christ functions together with the giftedness released by the Spirit as He desires.

This structure protects us from “creepers”.

Sadly, most of contemporary, western churches reject the structure and processes of the Lord.
Most reject the empowerment of the Spirit.

To our detriment.
To the detriment of the Kingdom.

“Creepers"

January 8, 2020

“Creepers"

Blessings folk!

I think we need to be reminded.
We need to be aware.
We need to be forewarned.
We need to be proactive.

We have covered some of this before at varied times, but remember!

Creepers will creep.

Jude 1:1-4

Jude,
a bond-servant of Jesus Christ,
and brother of James,
To those who are the called,
beloved in God the Father,
and kept for Jesus Christ:

May mercy and peace and love be multiplied to you.

Beloved, while I was making every effort to write you about our common salvation,
I felt the necessity to write to you appealing that you contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints.

For certain persons have crept in unnoticed,
those who were long beforehand marked out for this condemnation,
ungodly persons who turn the grace of our God into licentiousness and deny our only Master and Lord, Jesus Christ.

Jude was a bond-servant of the Lord.
Jude was the brother of James.
Jude, in humility, did not mention that he was the earthly brother of Jesus!

He wanted to write about their common salvation, but something had happened.
He felt the necessity to write something else.

We need to hear this “something else”.

He wrote to appeal to them to contend earnestly for the faith!

Why?

Because certain people had “crept in” - Creepers.
They were unnoticed.
They were condemned.
They were ungodly.
They twisted the grace of God.
They denied the Lord Jesus.

Such are prevalent today in the organized church.
Many profess to be true believers.
They are not.

We must address them.
Contend for the faith.

“Accurately Handle the Word of Truth”

January 7, 2020

“Accurately Handle the Word of Truth”

Blessings folk!

If only the organizational church would do this…

2 Ti 2:14-15

Remind them of these things,
and solemnly charge them in the presence of God not to wrangle about words,
which is useless and leads to the ruin of the hearers.

Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth.

We are told to remind folk of things.
We are to charge them.
…Do not wrangle about words.
- Such is useless
- Such leads to ruin

We are to be diligent to present ourselves approved to God…
Workmen.
Unashamed.
Accurately handling the Word of the Truth.

We must accurately handle the Word.
We must know the the Word.
Lack of knowing the Word brings problems…such as we are experiencing.

Be not ashamed.
Wrangle not.
Know the Word. Handle the Word accurately.

“Ticklers…”

January 6, 2020

“Ticklers…”

Blessings folk!!

No doubt the days are here.

People want to have their ears tickled.
Even those within the professing body of Christ.

The people like it that way.
The “leaders” like it that way.

“Pulpit-readers” will spend much time on “personal experiences”.
They spend much time on “legends”, “what might be”.
They spend minimal time in Scripture and then with only oblique references/inferences.
They go to great extremes to avoid having a real encounter with the Lord and His Word.
They do not worship…they are often distracting during times of worship.
All in the name of the Lord.

Be forewarned.
Beware!

The Lord tells us about such…

2 Tim 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine;
but wanting to have their ears tickled,
they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

Yet, there is a remnant.
A remnant that wants the Truth of the Lord.
A remnant that yearns for the transformative power of the Word and Spirit.
A remnant that desires to be the vessel of the Kingdom that the Lord has designed us to be.

What are we to do?

2 Tim 4:2
preach the word;
be ready in season and out of season;
reprove,
rebuke,
exhort,
with great patience and instruction.

Fear not.
Continue to pursue the Lord.
Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness.
Be the remnant.
Be the vessel.

The Word: Episode 1159 Daniel 7:6

“To Sum Up…”

January 5, 2020

“To Sum Up…”

Blessings folk!

We saw yesterday that we are to overcome evil with good.

The Spirit speaks to us through Peter…yeah, combative, “foot-in-mouth” Peter. Happy Happy

1Pe 3:8-12

To sum up, all of you be harmonious, sympathetic, brotherly, kindhearted, and humble in spirit;

not returning evil for evil or insult for insult, but giving a blessing instead;
for you were called for the very purpose that you might inherit a blessing.

For,
“THE ONE WHO DESIRES LIFE, TO LOVE AND SEE GOOD DAYS,
MUST KEEP HIS TONGUE FROM EVIL AND HIS LIPS FROM SPEAKING DECEIT.

“HE MUST TURN AWAY FROM EVIL AND DO GOOD;
HE MUST SEEK PEACE AND PURSUE IT.

“FOR THE EYES OF THE LORD ARE TOWARD THE RIGHTEOUS,
AND HIS EARS ATTEND TO THEIR PRAYER,
BUT THE FACE OF THE LORD IS AGAINST THOSE WHO DO EVIL.”

We, True Believers, are to:
Be harmonious
Be sympathetic
Be brotherly
Be kindhearted
Be humble in spirit
Give blessings
Inherit blessings
Desire life
Lord
See good days
Keep our tongues from evil
Keep our lips from deceit
Turn from evil
Do good
Seek peace
Pursue peace

We are not to:
Return evil for evil
Return insult for insult
Speak evil/deceit
Do evil

Only those who live by the Spirit can do such.

The flesh will only bring failure.

Walk in the Spirit.
Manifest the Spirit.

“So Far As It Depends On You…”

January 4, 2020

“So Far As It Depends On You…”

Blessings folk!!

Rom 12:18
If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all men.

This is not always easy.

Many do not seek peace.
Many who profess to be “believers” do not seek peace.
They seek power.
They seek position.
They seek prestige.

We see this among individuals.
We see it among corporate entities.
We see it among political entities.
We see it in the “organizational church”.

“Be at peace with all men” is not a mandate to allow others to rule and run roughshod over one.
It is not an instruction to ignore problems.
It is not an excuse to not stand for the truth.

Each of us should seek to live at peace with all men, knowing that doing so will bring division and clear lines of demarcation between truth and lie.

How should we live and do so?

Rom 12:19-21
Never take your own revenge, beloved, but leave room for the wrath of God, for it is written, “VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY,” says the Lord.

“BUT IF YOUR ENEMY IS HUNGRY, FEED HIM, AND IF HE IS THIRSTY, GIVE HIM A DRINK; FOR IN SO DOING YOU WILL HEAP BURNING COALS ON HIS HEAD.”

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Do not take your own revenge.
Leave room for the wrath of God.
Help meet foundational needs of all…even those who would declare themselves to be “enemies”.
Do not be overcome by evil.
Overcome evil with good.

Again, overcome evil with good.
“Good” begins with Truth.

Know Truth.
Live Truth.

“Revolutionary 20s"

January 2, 2020

“Revolutionary 20s"

Blessings folk!

Could it be that we are about to experience the “Revolutionary 20s”?

I think so.

Most definitely in the political arena.

Many, many will be shocked, confused, maddened, angry, etc. with what is about to be revealed and what is to occur.

Fear not.
It is good.
Uncomfortable but good.

Boils must be lanced.
Zits must be popped…(did I just say that?)

I believe that the 2020s will be Revolutionary within the Body of Christ and in the spiritual realm.

Gone will be the days of pious religionism.
Gone will be the frauds.
Gone will be the organizational deceptions,.

The Body of Christ will be as those that we see in Acts…

Act 17:6
And when they found them not, they drew Jason and certain brethren unto the rulers of the city, crying, These that have turned the world upside down are come hither also;

True Believers “turn the world upside down”.

It is time for the Body to do so.

What will cause this Revolution?
Persecution.

Persecution drives out the frauds.
Persecution reveals the true Believers.
Persecution reveals the false believers.

Persecution from without - political realms, the world, etc.
We see this happening now.

Persecution from within - religionists fighting against true Believers.
We see this happening now.

Each Believer will have decisions to make.

Many are deciding already.

They are turning away from the “pulpit readers” to those who preach/teach/live the Word of God and His Kingdom.

They are turning to the Life of the Kingdom that rejects “religious practices” as the means of relationship with God and OneAnother.

They are turning to the Lord, His Word, His Spirit.

Believer!
Stay strong in the Lord.
Be His Kingdom.
Do as He leads.

A Revolutionary Resurgence is upon us.

Rejoice!
You are alive for such a time as this!!

The Word: Episode 1155 Daniel 7:2-8

“2020”

January 1, 2020

“2020”

Blessings folk!

A new year!
Perhaps a new decade…depends upon how you “count” the “0” years. Happy

The Lord desires to grant to Believers in this new year…

2020 vision
2020 wisdom
2020 knowledge
2020 power

If we choose to walk in Him.
If we choose to abide in Him.
If we choose to be His imager.

2 Peter 1:2-3
Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord;

seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence.

Remember, the Lord will give a place to begin again!

We see this powerfully in the account of the woman “caught” (setup?) “in the very act”.

The religionists wanted to stone her.
The religionists wanted to entrap and undermine Jesus.

Jesus wanted to forgive and set her free.
He did.

John 8:2-11
Early in the morning He came again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; and He sat down and began to teach them.

The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery,
and having set her in the center of the court,

they said to Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.

“Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women; what then do You say?”

They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds for accusing Him.
But Jesus stooped down and with His finger wrote on the ground.

But when they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and said to them,
“He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

Again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

When they heard it, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones,
and He was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the center of the court.

Straightening up, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”

She said, “No one, Lord.”
And Jesus said,
“I do not condemn you, either.
Go.
From now on sin no more.”

The Lord will do the same for us.
The Lord does not condemn.
He convicts.

If you feel “condemned”…without hope…that is the enemy lying to you.

Go forth in 2020.

Sin no more!

The 1920s were called the “roaring 20s”

We are entering “the roaring 20s”, but for a multitude different reasons.

We are ramping up to “the revolutionary 20s”…in many ways.

More on that tomorrow.

Meanwhile, blessed New Year!!
