“He Left For the Mountain to Pray”

Blessings folk!

Remember the context.

The disciples that Jesus had sent forth had returned with a good report.
Jesus was taking them or a time of rest and respite.
They were followed by the crowd.
Jesus fed the crowd - the 5000.

Now, look at what Jesus does…

Mar 6:45-46
Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go ahead of Him to the other side to Bethsaida, while He Himself was sending the crowd away.

After bidding them farewell, He left for the mountain to pray.

Jesus sent the disciples ahead of Himself to the other side…to Bethsaida.
He did so immediately after they gathered the leftovers.

Why?

To give the disciples rest.
To keep them focused.

Also, Jesus was doing a couple of things.

He sent the crowd away.
As the Word said “He, Himself…”.
Can you imagine that departing blessing?

He would not have “shooed” them as some animal.
He would have loved and blessed them.
He bid them farewell.

Then, Jesus went to spend time with Father.
He went to the mountain to pray.

Wonder why a mountain?
You see Jesus doing this often.
It is not so that “He could be closer to God”.
It is for a time of isolation, privacy, intimacy.

While the world slept…
While the disciples journeyed…
Jesus prayed…
