“Joab Kills Abner”

Blessings folk!

Joab was upset that David had allowed Abner to leave.

Watch what happens.
Watch what Joab does.
Watch what Abner does.
Watch what happen to Abner.
Watch what David does.
Happy

2Sa 3:26-30

When Joab came out from David, he sent messengers after Abner,
and they brought him back from the well of Sirah; but David did not know it.

So when Abner returned to Hebron,
Joab took him aside into the middle of the gate to speak with him privately, and there he struck him in the belly so that he died on account of the blood of Asahel his brother.

Afterward when David heard it, he said, “I and my kingdom are innocent before the LORD forever of the blood of Abner the son of Ner.

“May it fall on the head of Joab and on all his father’s house; and may there not fail from the house of Joab one who has a discharge, or who is a leper, or who takes hold of a distaff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks bread.”

So Joab and Abishai his brother killed Abner because he had put their brother Asahel to death in the battle at Gibeon.

Without David’s knowledge, Joab sent to have Abner return.
Abner did.

Joab took Abner aside privately…to speak to him.
Joab then killed Abner.
He did so to revenge Abner’s killing of Joab’s brother, Asahel.

David heard of the murder.
His response?
The blood is not upon me and my kingdom.
We are innocent.
The blood would be upon Joab…forever.
- upon the head of Joab
- upon all his father’s house
- there would never fail to be…
- a discharge
- a leper
- those who take hold of a distaff
- those who fall by the sword
- those who lack bread.

Joab’s house would have those who were unclean, lame, hungry, in poverty.

Joab and Abishai had executed revenge rather than waiting upon the Lord.

Never a good thing to do…

Do not do so.
