“But A Step Between Me and Death”

Blessings folk!

Saul pursued David.
The Spirit of the Lord fell upon Saul.
Saul prophesied.
He prophesied before Samuel.
All day.
All night.
Totally naked.

What happens next?

David flees.
He runs to Jonathan.
David wanted to know what was happening.
He wanted to know why.

Read carefully.
Much here…

1Sa 20:1-2

Then David fled from Naioth in Ramah, and came and said to Jonathan, “What have I done? What is my iniquity? And what is my sin before your father, that he is seeking my life?”

He said to him, “Far from it, you shall not die. Behold, my father does nothing either great or small without disclosing it to me. So why should my father hide this thing from me? It is not so!”

David wanted to know…

  • What have I done?
  • What is my iniquity?
  • What is my sin before Saul?
  • Why is Saul seeking my life?

Jonathan did not believe.
He sought to comfort David by telling him that he would not die.
He told David that his father, Saul, did nothing without telling him.
Yet, Jonathan did not know.

Saul had sought to spear David.
Saul had sent messengers to bring David back, presumably to harm.

David was concerned.
Jonathan was clueless.

David then said…

1Sa 20:3

Yet David vowed again, saying,
“Your father knows well that I have found favor in your sight, and he has said,
‘Do not let Jonathan know this, or he will be grieved.’
But truly as the LORD lives and as your soul lives,
there is hardly a step between me and death.”

David was correct.
Jonathan began to see it was possible.

David was in trouble.
Death was near.

They developed a plan…as we will see…
