Blessings folk!
Paul had just told the Thessalonians to comfort one another with the word of truth related to the Lord’s return.
He continues to respond to their questions/inquiries.
Note how the first verse in chapter 5 is word…”now…”
They had asked him something.
He now answered.
1 Th 5:1-2
Now as to the times and the epochs, brethren,
you have no need of anything to be written to you.
For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
As to the “times and epochs”…you have no need of anything to be written to you.
They knew already.
Paul had told them.
What did they know?
They knew full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.
Even though Paul was with them only a few short weeks, he taught this.
He brought the gospel.
They believed.
He told them the Lord would return.
They believed.
He told them the day of the Lord would come, as a thief in the night.
They believed.
He told them what the “Day of the Lord” was.
Do you know?
Do you believe?
The Day of the Lord: God’s wrath/judgment upon unbelieving humans beings and upon rebellious divine beings.
The Great Tribulation: Satan’s wrath upon Believers and Jews/Israel.
This biblical distinction/truth clarifies much.
