“Preach the Word!"

Blessings folk!

Following up from yesterday…

What do we do when folk are only wanting “ear-tickling”?

What do you do when that is all the “leadership” will provide?

The fuller context of the 2 Timothy passage gives some insight…

2 Ti 4:1-5

I solemnly charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus,
who is to judge the living and the dead, and by His appearing and His kingdom:

preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
reprove, rebuke, exhort, with great patience and instruction.

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but wanting to have their ears tickled, they will accumulate for themselves teachers in accordance to their own desires,

and will turn away their ears from the truth and will turn aside to myths.

But you, be sober in all things, endure hardship,
do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

We preach the Word.
This is far beyond what we call “preaching”…behind the pulpit monologues.
We…all Believers… are to speak forth the Word.
In all places.
At all times.
As led by the Spirit.

What are we to preach?

Rom 10:8-10

But what does it say?
“THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, IN YOUR MOUTH AND IN YOUR HEART”
—that is, the word of faith which we are preaching,

that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord,
and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved;

for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.

We are to preach Jesus born, lived, died, buried, resurrected.
We are to preach faith in Jesus Christ as Messiah.
We are to preach confession of Jesus with our mouth…confession that He is Lord.
We are to preach “believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead”.

True belief results in righteousness.
Confessing results in salvation.

Yet…I actually heard this recently from a “church leader”…some say “it is not our role to tell people to repent and confess…”.

The Word tells us differently.

Speak forth the Word of the Lord, especially to those deceived by ear-tickling.

…to be continued…
