“The Sum of Your Word is Truth.
Revive Me!”

Blessings folk!

Hang in there!

We are in the final stretch of our cursory reading of Psalm 119.
Again, it is amazing how much detail the Lord gives us.
It is notable the repetition that He uses.
He wants us to know some things.
He describes His Word as:
  • Law
  • Statutes
  • Ordinances
  • Testimonies
  • Precepts
  • Truth
  • As well as others

Read the next stanza.
Watch how the Word is described and what it does.
Watch the Psalmist’s situation and his response/desire.

Psa 119:153-160

Resh.
Look upon my affliction and rescue me,
For I do not forget Your law.

Plead my cause and redeem me;
Revive me according to Your word.

Salvation is far from the wicked,
For they do not seek Your statutes.

Great are Your mercies, O LORD;
Revive me according to Your ordinances.

Many are my persecutors and my adversaries,
Yet I do not turn aside from Your testimonies.

I behold the treacherous and loathe them,
Because they do not keep Your word.

Consider how I love Your precepts;
Revive me, O LORD, according to Your lovingkindness.

The sum of Your word is truth,
And every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

Whoa!

The Psalmist was in a challenging time.
He was afflicted
He needed rescuing.
He wanted the Lord to plead his cause.
He wanted the Lord to redeem him.
Three times he asked the Lord to revive him.
- according to Your Word
- according to Your ordinances
- according to Your lovingkindness

People were coming against him…
- wicked
- persecutors
- adversaries
- treacherous
These did not keep the Word of the Lord.
They did not seek the statutes of the Lord.
They had forgotten His Law.
They rejected the testimonies of the Lord.
The Psalmist loathed them because of such.

The Psalmist closes this stanza by asking the Lord to consider how he loved His precepts.
Then, this declaration:
The sum of Your Word is truth.
Every one of Your righteous ordinances is everlasting.

That is the bottom line.
The Word of the Lord is truth.
His Truth is everlasting.

Will you know it?
Will you live it?
