“Shall I Go Up…”

“Shall I Go Up…”

Blessings folk!

Saul and his sons were dead.
David and his men grieved.
David wrote a lament and required Judah to learn it.

The threat to David and his men was gone.
What were they to do next?

David knew.
He was to inquired of the Lord…

2Sa 2:1-3
Then it came about afterwards that David inquired of the LORD, saying,
“Shall I go up to one of the cities of Judah?” And the LORD said to him, “Go up.”
So David said, “Where shall I go up?” And He said, “To Hebron.”

So David went up there, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess and Abigail the widow of Nabal the Carmelite.

And David brought up his men who were with him, each with his household;
and they lived in the cities of Hebron.

We learn some things in this incident about discerning the mind of the Lord.

Apparently David had been thinking about going to one of the cities of Judah.
So, he asked the Lord about it.
The Lord told him to “go up” to one of the cities.

The Lord did not delineate which city.

David inquired/asked which city.
The Lord said “Hebron”.

What do we learn?

The Lord may be the source of the thought in our mind.
We are to inquire of the Lord…in all things.
We are to inquire with faith and expectation that the Lord will speak and lead.

David did as the Lord lead.
David, his wives and his men and their households lived in the cities of Hebron.
Note the plural…”cities”… “in the cities of the region of Hebron”.
May we continually inquire of the Lord.
