“The Lord Gives. The Lord Takes.”

Blessings folk!

Job was in mourning.
His children had died.
His animals had been stolen.
His stuff was destroyed.

Yet, still he worshipped…

Job 1:20
Then Job arose and tore his robe and shaved his head,
and he fell to the ground and worshiped.

Wonder what Job was thinking?
Wonder how Job felt?

We do not need to wonder.
The Word tells us.

Job 1:21-22
He said,
“Naked I came from my mother’s womb,
And naked I shall return there.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away.
Blessed be the name of the LORD.”

Through all this Job did not sin nor did he blame God.

Familiar, huh?
But now we know the context.

Job was acknowledging the truth of life.
We come into the world naked…having nothing, “owning” nothing.
We will return the same way…can not “take it with us”.

Job also proclaimed that it is the Lord that gives.
It is the Lord that takes away.

His response? “Blessed be the name of the Lord!”

He blessed the Lord.
He did not sin.
He did not blame God.

May we do likewise.
