"Perseverance..."

“Perseverance…”

Blessings folk!

We are told to follow the example of Paul in persevering.

2 Timothy 3:10-12
10 Now you followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, faith, patience, love, perseverance,
11 persecutions, and sufferings, such as happened to me at Antioch, at Iconium and at Lystra; what persecutions I endured, and out of them all the Lord rescued me!
12 Indeed, all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted.

Perseverance: hypomonē

  • steadfastness
  • endurance
  • constancy
  • patient enduring
  • “in the NT the characteristic of a man who is not swerved from his deliberate purpose and his loyalty to faith and piety by even the greatest trials and sufferings”

Perseverance in the faith is evidence that one is truly saved.

1 Timothy 4:16
Pay close attention to yourself and to your teaching; persevere in these things, for as you do this you will ensure salvation both for yourself and for those who hear you.

Perseverance presses on.
Perseverance believes.
Perseverance hopes.

Perseverance is sorely lacking within the “professing” organizational church.

We are to persevere in giving close attention to ourselves...to sin not, to live holy.
We are to persevere in the teaching of the Word…the Truth...to be not deceived.

The Word speaks much of perseverance.
Read and give heed.
Then, persevere.

Romans 2:5-8

But because of your stubbornness and unrepentant heart you are storing up wrath for yourself in the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God,
who WILL RENDER TO EACH PERSON ACCORDING TO HIS DEEDS:
to those who by
perseverance in doing good seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life;
but to those who are selfishly ambitious and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, wrath and indignation.

In what do we persevere?
In doing/seeking good?
In selfish ambition?

Romans 5:1-5
Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,
through whom also we have obtained our introduction by faith into this grace in which we stand; and we exult in hope of the glory of God.
And not only this, but we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about
perseverance;
and
perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;
and hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out within our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us.

True Believers are justified.
We have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
In peace we will still have tribulations.
These tribulations bring about perseverance.

Rejoice.
Persevere.
