Unfaithfulness

Unfaithfulness”

Blessings folk!

We have been giving special focus on praying for “the nation” leading up to an election.

We now continue praying as we await the results…no, the results have not been certified.
Media declaration is not the constitutional process.

We have looked at the prayer of Daniel in Daniel 9.
We have looked at the prayer of the people and their leadership in Nehemiah 9.

Now, let us look at Ezra 9.

The people of Israel had a problem.

Watch for it…

Ezr 9:1-3

After these things had been done, the leaders approached me and said:
“The people of Israel, the priests, and the Levites have not separated themselves from the surrounding peoples whose detestable practices are like those of the Canaanites, Hethites, Perizzites, Jebusites, Ammonites, Moabites, Egyptians, and Amorites.

“Indeed, the Israelite men have taken some of their daughters as wives for themselves and their sons, so that the holy seed has become mixed with the surrounding peoples.
The leaders and officials have taken the lead in this unfaithfulness!

When I heard this report, I tore my tunic and robe,
pulled out some of the hair from my head and beard, and sat down devastated.

What was the problem?
The people were unfaithful to the Lord.

How did this unfaithfulness manifest?
They did not adhere to the Word of the Lord which had been told them.
They were not to intermingle (as some translations express) themselves with the people of the surrounding land.
They were to keep the “holy seed” holy before the Lord.

They had not done so.

They did not separate themselves from the detestable practices of the surround people.
They participated in the practices.
They took daughters of the pagan peoples as wives.

Worse yet, the leaders and officials were taking the lead in these unfaithful practices.

How serious is this?

Look at Ezra’s response.

He tore his tunic and robe…a very expensive expression of anger/grief.
One did not just find clothes hanging on a rack back then.
He pulled out some hair from his head and beard…ouch…a painful expression of anger/grief.
He sat down devastated.

What to do now?

As we will see, he fell before the Lord.

So should we.
’Tis better to fall before the Lord rather than fall to enemies.
