“Return. Submit.”

Blessings folk!

Read the Hagar account again…

Gen 16:7-14

Now the angel of the LORD found her by a spring of water in the wilderness, by the spring on the way to Shur.

He said, “Hagar, Sarai’s maid, where have you come from and where are you going?” And she said, “I am fleeing from the presence of my mistress Sarai.”

Then the angel of the LORD said to her, “Return to your mistress, and submit yourself to her authority.”

Moreover, the angel of the LORD said to her, “I will greatly multiply your descendants so that they will be too many to count.”

The angel of the LORD said to her further,
“Behold, you are with child,
And you will bear a son;
And you shall call his name Ishmael,
Because the LORD has given heed to your affliction.

“He will be a wild donkey of a man,
His hand will be against everyone,
And everyone’s hand will be against him;
And he will live to the east of all his brothers.”

Note what the angel of the Lord told Hagar to do…

  • return to your mistress
  • submit yourself to her authority

Sometimes the Lord desires for us to remain in a situation, though it be difficult.
Most of us could testify of such, whether in a job, marriage, organizational church, etc.

The Lord has purpose.
It is for His glory.
Who knows what the Lord will do through one who believes and walks in submission to Him.

The Angel of the Lord then spoke hope to her.
He declared that He would greatly multiply her descendants, too many to count.
(This gives us some insight as to Who the Angel of the Lord was…likely a preincarnate appearance of the Lord Jesus. He would multiply&hellipWinking

Can you imagine the emotions she experienced?
Fear, doubt, dread from returning to her mistress.
Joy, excitement, anticipation over the one she carried.

Then, the Angel of the Lord tells her about the little one…
