“Elijah First?”

“Elijah First?”
Blessings folk!
The disciples were wondering what it meant to “rise from the dead”. So, they asked another question...on first glance unrelated...but...
Mar 9:9-11
As they were coming down from the mountain, He gave them orders not to relate to anyone what they had seen, until the Son of Man rose from the dead.
They seized upon that statement, discussing with one another what rising from the dead meant.
They asked Him, saying, “Why is it that the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
So, the question is...if Jesus was to be raised from the dead...and if He is Messiah...then why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?
They thought Elijah has not come, so how can Jesus be Messiah? How can He truly be raised from the dead?
Jesus continued...
Mar 9:12-13
And He said to them, “Elijah does first come and restore all things. And yet how is it written of the Son of Man that He will suffer many things and be treated with contempt?
“But I say to you that Elijah has indeed come, and they did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.”
Jesus confirmed the Biblical interpretation of the scribes. Elijah does first come and restore all things.
Jesus then states that Elijah has indeed come. They did to him whatever they wished, just as it is written of him.
Matthew gives more insight...
Mat 11:14-15
“And if you are willing to accept it, John himself is Elijah who was to come.

“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.
The “John” referenced is John the Baptist. John the Baptist was Elijah...if we are willing to accept it... But, is that all? Is there more to “Elijah”? Did John the Baptist “restore all things”... ...more later...
