“Abishag"

Blessings folk!

We have taken an extended detour in our time together to study some of what the Word reveals of the life of David.

Most of our time has been spent in the writings of 1, 2 Samuel.

There are other details in varied cross-references/accounts (1, 2 Chronicles, etc.), but we have seen much of what the Lord has revealed.

Now, we wind down the life of David…

1 Kings 1:1-4

Now King David was old, advanced in age;
and they covered him with clothes,
but he could not keep warm.

So his servants said to him, “Let them seek a young virgin for my lord the king,
and let her attend the king and become his nurse; and let her lie in your bosom,
that my lord the king may keep warm.”

So they searched for a beautiful girl throughout all the territory of Israel,
and found Abishag the Shunammite, and brought her to the king.

The girl was very beautiful;
and she became the king’s nurse and served him,
but the king did not cohabit with her.

David was old, advanced in age.

His body was wearing down.
He was cold.
Some of us relate.

David’s servants were concerned.

What was the solution?
There were no electric blankets…

They sought out a young, beautiful virgin to nurse and serve David.
She attended to him.
She snuggled with him and kept him warm.
David did not “know/cohabit” with her.

Her name was Abishag the Shunammmite.

She will continue to be important in the account.
