“Retaliation”

Today’s reading:
Matthew 5:38-42
Luke 6:29-30

Here we are dealing with a heart issue.

The Law allowed for “an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.”
Comparable restitution for harm.

But, there is a difference between the Law and what the Lord stated.
Again, you “have have heard” but “I say to you”...

What is the motivation of the heart?

If revenge/retaliation is the goal, then we are not to participate.
If greed to retain that which “is ours” is the motivation, reject such.

This is not a call to a “milquetoast” existence.
The balance of the Word reveals that there is a time to stand firm and resist evil.

But, there is a need for a heart that loves and is concerned for others.

Walk in the humility and love of the Lord.
Watch what He does.
