“Burning Hearts on the Road”

Blessings folk!

Today’s reading:

Mark 16:12-13
Luke 24:13-35

Mark gives a brief synopsis of the encounter.
Luke gives the details.

An amazing account.
Here are some thoughts to take away today:
  • Jesus can be traveling with us and we might not have “the eyes to see”
  • the two were speaking of the things that had occurred...the things of the Kingdom
  • Jesus…
    • Nazarene
    • Prophet
    • Mighty in deed
    • Mighty in Word
    • in the sight of God and all people
    • delivered by the chief priests to death/crucified
  • they were hoping that He was the Redeemer of Israel
  • some women could not find His body, visions of angels saying He was alive

Jesus stated…”O foolish men and slow of hearts to believe in all that the prophets have spoken!...It was necessary for the Christ to suffer these things and to enter into His glory?”

Jesus then presented the greatest sermon ever spoke.
Beginning with Moses (The Law - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Deuteronomy) and with all the Prophets, He explained the Scriptures related to Himself.

The two encouraged Him to stay with them.
He agreed.
Upon His blessing and breaking bread He was revealed, then disappeared.

They exclaimed, “Were not our hearts burning within us while He was speaking to us on the road, while He was explaining the Scriptures to us?”

They immediately returned to Jerusalem (7 miles?) and told the eleven.
They did not believe.

Do you believe?
Does your heart burn at the Word of the Lord?
Is your heart grieved at the lack of the Word in the life of many believers?
