“El Roi”

Blessings folk!

The Lord God had told Hagar about the child she was carrying, Ishmael.
(See yesterday).

What was Hagar’s response?

Remember, she was Sarai’s handmaiden.
She was in the presence of Abram.
She would have heard of Abram’s faith/story.

Watch what she does…

Gen 16:13-16
Then she called the name of the LORD who spoke to her, “You are a God who sees”; for she said, “Have I even remained alive here after seeing Him?”
Therefore the well was called Beer-lahai-roi; behold, it is between Kadesh and Bered.
So Hagar bore Abram a son; and Abram called the name of his son, whom Hagar bore, Ishmael.
Abram was eighty-six years old when Hagar bore Ishmael to him.

She calls/declares God as “a God Who sees” - El Roi.
She was amaze that she was still alive after seeing Him.
Interesting.
Did she see Him?
Or, did she consider hearing His voice and hearing from Him as “seeing Him”?

The well where the encounter occurred was named because of this event.
It was called “the well of the Living One Who sees me”.

Hagar knew that Abram’s God was the Living God.
She knew that He saw.

Hagar did as God said.
She bore Abram a son.
She named him Ismael - “God hears”.

Abram was 86 when Ismael was born.
Abram was 75 when the Lord called him from Ur and promised descendants.

Know this.
God hears.
Fear not.
