1 Sam 28:5
When Saul inquired of the LORD, the LORD did not answer him,
either by dreams or by Urim or by prophets.

Saul inquired of the Lord.
The Lord did not answer.
Either by dreams.
Nor by Urim.
Or by prophets.

Saul had not heard from the Lord.
The Spirit of the Lord had left him.

Let’s look a one thing today.

What is “Urim”?

The Urim was used to determine the will of God, usually in conjunction with the Thummin.
“Urim and Thummin” likely means “lights and perfections.

Apparently one would inquire of the Lord and the answer would be received through a series of lights.

Intriguing.

Read the passages where “Urim” appears…

“You shall put in the breastpiece of judgment the Urim and the Thummim, and they shall be over Aaron's heart when he goes in before the LORD; and Aaron shall carry the judgment of the sons of Israel over his heart before the LORD continually.

The Lord did not answer Saul.

Therefore, Saul took matters into his own hands.
