The author of Hebrews was driving home the point that it is by faith that we as believers live.
Example after example has been given.
He continues…but begins to accelerate the conversation…
Heb 11:32-34
And what more shall I say?
For time will fail me if I tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah,
of David and Samuel and the prophets,
who by faith conquered kingdoms, performed acts of righteousness,
obtained promises, shut the mouths of lions,
quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword,
from weakness were made strong, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.
“What more shall I say?”
How many more examples need to be given?
He would run out of time if he went into detail about each that was listed.
So would we!
The Word provides detail of each…
Gideon - Judges 6-8
Barak - Judges 4-5
Samson - Judges 13-16
Jephthah - Judges 11-12
David - 1 Samuel 16-2 Samuel; Psalms, etc.
Prophets - “major/minor” prophets
Look again at what was recounted.
By faith they:
- conquered kingdoms
- performed acts of righteousness
- obtained promises
- shut the mouths of lions (Daniel)
- quenched the power of fire (Hananiah, Mishael, Azariah)
- escaped the edge of the sword (several)
- from weakness were made strong
- became might in war
- put foreign armies to flight
All by faith.
Simply by faith.
Faith=Believing God.
Why would we choose to live any other way?
