"Revive Me…"

“Revive Me…”

Blessings folk!

Where I’m sitting at the moment...in the Deep South...one will often hear of gatherings called revivals.

Supposedly, these are times of renewal and refreshing of that which the Lord has done, though I have long, long suspected that most people need to be “vived” before they are “revived”.

One must experience the Newness of Life found in the Lord Jesus before one can be “revived”.

Hear what the Psalmist states is the source of revival...

Psalm 119:37-40
37 Turn away my eyes from looking at vanity,
And revive me in Your ways.
38 Establish Your word to Your servant,
As that which produces reverence for You.
39 Turn away my reproach which I dread,
For Your ordinances are good.
40 Behold, I long for Your precepts;
Revive me through Your righteousness.

Revival is found in the Ways of the Lord.
Revival is found through the Righteousness of God.

The Psalmist cries to the Lord.
He asks the Lord to turn his eyes from looking at vanity...worthless things.
He asks the Lord to establish His Word in him.
He asks the Lord to turn away his reproach.
He longs for the Precepts of the Lord.

The Word revives us.
The Word establishes us.
The Word produces reverence for the Lord.
The Word is good.
The Word produces the Righteousness of the Lord.

Why do we turn our eyes toward anything else?
For what do you long?

Psalm 119:37-40
(ESV)
37 Turn my eyes from looking at worthless things;
    and give me life in your ways.
38 Confirm to your servant your promise,
    that you may be feared.
39 Turn away the reproach that I dread,
    for your rules are good.
40 Behold, I long for your precepts;
    in your righteousness give me life!
