“They Worshipped Him”

Blessings folk!

The magi rejoiced!
The star had reappeared and now was over the place where the child was.

Mat 2:11-12

After coming into the house they saw the Child with Mary His mother;
and they fell to the ground and worshiped Him.
Then, opening their treasures, they presented to Him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.

And having been warned by God in a dream not to return to Herod,
the magi left for their own country by another way.

The magi came into a house…it was likely a year or more since the birth of the Babe.
They saw the Child.
They saw His mother.
They fell to the ground and worshipped Him.
They did not worship His mother.
They worshipped Him.

They presented their treasured gifts.
Gold.
Frankincense.
Myrrh.
Each representing an element of the life of the Lord Jesus.

Note that there is no mention of there being three kings. It is assumed because there were three gifts, but there could have been less…more?

There are many understandings of the meaning of the gifts.
Simply…
Gold represents the Kingship of Christ.
Frankincense pictures His priestly role on earth.
Myrrh anticipates His death and resurrection.

The magi knew that Jesus was the Promised One.
Do we?

One last thought.
They were warned of God in a dream.
Dreams are important in the birth account of the Lord.
They are seen throughout His Word.
We do well to pay attention to the dreams the Lord gives.
The dream warned to not return to Herod with a report.
They did as instructed.
They went home another way…rejoicing.
