“Imitators”

Blessings folk!

Paul continues to remind the believing Thessalonians of what occurred to them.

1 Th 2:14-16

For you, brethren, became imitators of the churches of God in Christ Jesus that are in Judea, for you also endured the same sufferings at the hands of your own countrymen,
even as they did from the Jews,

who both killed the Lord Jesus and the prophets, and drove us out.
They are not pleasing to God, but hostile to all men,

hindering us from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved;
with the result that they always fill up the measure of their sins.
But wrath has come upon them to the utmost.

The Thessalonians had become imitators of the churches of God - note the plural - in Judea.

How?

They endured the same sufferings.
The churches in Judea suffered under the Jews.
The Thessalonians suffered at the hands of their countrymen.

Paul speaks of how displeasing to God “The Jews” were - referring to Jewish leadership.
They killed the Lord Jesus.
They killed the prophets.
They drove out the believers.
They hindered Paul from speaking to the Gentiles so that they may be saved.

The result?
They fill up the measure of their sin.
The wrath of God has come upon them.
The wrath of God will come upon them.

Endure suffering.
Be not surprised.

Fear not.
The Lord is in control.
He will judge.
