“Sons of God. The Satan”

Blessings folk!

We have seen that Job was blameless, upright, feared God and turned away from evil.
He continually interceded for his children.
He was a good man.

Job 1:6-7

Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan also came among them.

The LORD said to Satan, “From where do you come?”
Then Satan answered the LORD and said,
“From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.”

This is a really interesting encounter.
We will examine it…slowly.

“There was a day…”
We do not know when.
It simple occurred.

“The sons of God…”
The Hebrew word for “God” is “elohim”.
It refers to a realm of existence…to “divine beings”.
“Elohim” is used to describe many different things in the Word.
There are many Elohim.
There is only one “Most High God”…Elohim of Elohim.
There are “human beings”…we are.
There are “divine beings”…

The “sons of God” presented themselves before the Lord.
Satan came among them.
We miss something in English translations.
In Hebrew “satan” has an article - “The Satan”
It means “the adversary”.
It does not always necessarily refer to the one we call “satan”, but the idea is the same.

This idea of “The Satan” carries through Job 1-2 and in other portions of the Word.

The Adversary is before the Lord.

Note the Lord initiates the conversation…the line of thought.
The Lord asked The Satan “from where do you come?”

This was not an inquiry for the purpose of gaining information.
The Lord knew.

The Satan’s response?
“From roaming about on the earth and walking around on it.”

This is important.

Know this for today.

There is much more to these passages/accounts than we know.
Much more that will enlighten the Word in a way we have never experienced before.
