"Devoted to Prayer..."

“Devoted to Prayer…”

Blessings folk!

The Spirit has told us...masters, slaves, children, wives, husbands...how to behave.

Now, some direct instruction...commands.
Then, a personal request from Paul.

Col 4:2-4
Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving;
praying at the same time for us
as well, that God will open up to us a door for the word, so that we may speak forth the mystery of Christ, for which I have also been imprisoned;
that I may make it clear in the way I ought to speak.

The Spirit is telling all Believers to pray...devotedly.
We are to devote ourselves to prayer.
We are to keep alert in prayer.
Jesus warned us about the last days - in Matthew 24-25 - to be alert.
Not alert in the flesh.
Not alert in the attitude and strategies of man.
Alert in prayer

But, not just alertness.
We are to be alert with an attitude of thanksgiving.
This is amazing.
I suspect that we are to be alert due to negative circumstances, yet we are to be giving thanks.

Paul then request that they pray for him.
What for?
Protection?
Provision?
No.
He wanted God to open doors for the Word.
He wanted to speak forth the mystery of God, but he knew that only God can open the doors.
He was asking the Body to join with him in prayer.
- That the doors would be open.
- That he could speak forth the mystery of Christ.

  • That he would speak clearly as he should.

May we pray in this manner...
