The Lord gave them over to oppressors.

How did the people respond to this?

But when they cried to You in the time of their distress,
You heard from heaven, and according to Your great compassion
You gave them deliverers who delivered them from the hand of their oppressors.

The people cried to the Lord in their time of distress.
Distress brought on them by the Lord due to their disobedience.

The Lord heard from heaven.
The Lord acted…according to His great compassion.
The Lord gave them deliverers.
They were delivered from their oppressors.

Remember, the people were praying to the Lord.
They were recounting what their forefathers had done.
They were recounting what the Lord had done.

They knew the evil of man.
They knew the goodness of God.

They were calling upon the goodness of God…again…
