“Assembled, Separated, Standing”

Blessings folk!

Let us look at one more prayer presented to the Most High on behalf of a people.

We have looked at Daniel 9 and Ezra 9.

Now, Nehemiah 9.

Remember these.
They all are good examples of prayer on behalf of a nation/people.

Neh 9:1-4

Now on the twenty-fourth day of this month the sons of Israel assembled with fasting,
in sackcloth and with dirt upon them.

The descendants of Israel separated themselves from all foreigners,
and stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers.

While they stood in their place,
they read from the book of the law of the LORD their God for a fourth of the day;
and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the LORD their God.

Now on the Levites’ platform stood Jeshua, Bani, Kadmiel, Shebaniah, Bunni, Sherebiah, Bani and Chenani, and they cried with a loud voice to the LORD their God.

The sons of Israel adopted a stance of humility…

  • They fasted
  • They were clothed in sackcloth
  • They had dirt on themselves and clothes

They then separated themselves from all foreigners.

They stood and confessed their sins.

They stood and confessed the iniquities of their fathers.

Then, while standing in place, they read/listened from the book of the Law of the Lord for a fourth of a day…three hours. Likely from Deuteronomy.

Then, for another three hours, they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God.

The Levitical leadership were on a platform.
They cried out in a loud voice…

The leadership led, unlike the norm today where leadership demand, dictate and pontificate but rarely lead by example.

The leadership and people humbled themselves before the Lord.

Then, they prayed…

May we approach the Lord in humility.
May we separate ourselves from the world.
May we confess our sins.
May we be immersed in the Word and Spirit.
May we lead by example.
