“Get Behind Me…Stumbling Block”

Blessings folk!

Peter rebuked the Lord.
Peter told that Lord that “that will not happen”…that which the Lord had just described.

Again, if He is Lord, we do not say no.

What was Jesus’ response?

Whew!

Mar 8:32-33
And He was stating the matter plainly.
And Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him.

But turning around and seeing His disciples, He rebuked Peter and said,
“Get behind Me, Satan; for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

Mat 16:22-23
Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying,
“God forbid it, Lord! This shall never [happen to You.”

But He turned and said to Peter, “Get behind Me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to Me;
for you are not setting your mind on God’s interests, but man’s.”

Whoa!

Just a few verses before Peter had the great declaration that “thou art the Christ…”.

Now, four verses later (in Mark) Jesus rebukes Peter.

Jesus called him satan and told him to get behind Him.

What?

Peter was speaking the mind of satan.

Whereas before flesh and blood had not revealed to Peter the truth of who Jesus is…
Now, Peter was speaking the mind of Satan.

That is how quickly we can move from the mind of the Lord to other things.

What caused this?

Peter was not setting his mind on God’s interest.
Peter was setting his mind on man’s interest.

Jesus told Peter that he was a stumbling block to Him.

Anytime we set our mind on man’s interest rather than on God’s we are a stumbling block to Jesus.

Hummmm….
