“Healed”

Blessings Folk!

Today’s reading:

Matthew 15:29-31
Mark 7:31-37

We have here a big picture and a specific incident.

Jesus sat down on the top of the mountain.
The crowds came to him bringing their lame, blind, crippled, mute and many others and laid them at Jesus’ feet.
He healed them. All.

The people were amazed.
They saw the mute speaking.
They saw the crippled healed.
They saw the lame walking.
They saw the blind seeing.

They responded properly - they praised the God of Israel.

Mark gives us an account which reveals some insight to the “mechanics” of what Jesus did when He healed.

I believe this to be true...we never see the Lord healing the same way twice.

With this particular deaf man Jesus did the following:
  • took him aside privately, away from the crowd
  • put His fingers in the man’s ears
  • spit and touched his tongue
  • looked to heaven and said with a sigh “ephphatha” - open!

The man was healed.
Tongue loosed.
Ears open.
Clear speech.

Should we expect to see the same today?
Do we?
If not, why?
