“I Gave…”

Blessings folk!

David had been confronted.
Not by Nathan.
By God.

God used Nathan to speak the truth to David.

The first words penetrated to the heart.
“You are the man”
David was the man in the story Nathan had told.

But the Lord was not done.
The Lord tells David what He had done for him.
The Lord tells David that He would have done even more.
Then, the Lord tells David what he had done.

So much in this story.
Give close attention and heed…

2Sa 12:7-9

Nathan then said to David,
“You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel,
‘It is I who anointed you king over Israel and it is I who delivered you from the hand of Saul.

‘I also gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your care,
and I gave you the house of Israel and Judah; and if that had been too little,
I would have added to you many more things like these!

‘Why have you despised the word of the LORD by doing evil in His sight?
You have struck down Uriah the Hittite with the sword, have taken his wife to be your wife,
and have killed him with the sword of the sons of Ammon.

God proclaimed bluntly what He had done for David:

  • I have anointed you king over Israel
  • I delivered you from the hand of Saul
  • I gave you your master’s house and your master’s wives into your care (likely Saul’s stuff)
  • I gave you the house of Israel and Judah
  • I would have added to you more if all this proved too little

David had been ungrateful.
David had been greedy.
David had sought to satisfy the lust of the flesh through the power of position.
David had despised the word of the Lord.
David had done evil in the sight of God.

God tells David exactly what he had done.
  • You struck down Uriah with the sword…the sword of the sons of Ammon
  • You took his wife to be your wife

David thought he had “got away with it”.
He had not.

Repentance is the only way.

Learn the lesson of David.
