I was recently speaking with a friend who is strong believer.
He was telling of varied things in his life related to business, relationship, etc.

A good conversation.

Upon speaking of the local church he began to tell me about a recent endeavor in which he was involved with several other “churches”.

He then suddenly proclaimed “the church has gotta do something.”

This is true.

That which we associate with “church”, “going to church”, “church member”, etc is often detrimental to the Kingdom of God.

Yet, my friend is finding his “solution” in just another plan of man.

Now, allow me to quickly confess, I know that the Lord does much good in many things.
Yet, I never cease to be amazed at how we as believers seek the latest “hip-hop-happ’n-now” thing to apply to the Body of Christ, all the while rejecting that which the Lord has commanded.

That of which my friend spoke is neat, nice, ok...yet, I could not help but believe it is just the latest in a long pursuit by believers of process and procedure. Man’s solution.

Often these “solutions” have ramification of unintended consequence.

For instance, often it is now stated that the worship service is for the “seeking..the unsaved...the lost”. I know what folk mean...sorta. But, think it through. Can a “worship service” be for those who are unsaved? Can those outside of salvation truly worship?
We have eventually found ourselves in the situation where many gatherings are designed to be “attractive” to seekers/unsaved/etc. The orientation and focus of the corporate gathering is “putting on a show for others that will not make them feel uncomfortable” rather than simply worshipping the Lord.

Want some insight into this and what we should really be doing? Read 1 Corinthians 14. Would do no harm to read 1 Cor. 12-14… or 1-14. Happy

These are not new questions.
Nor are the answers new.

Yet, we give no heed to the Word.

Yes, the church has “gotta do something”.

We must…

  • seek first the Kingdom of God

Matthew 6
33
But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

  • pursue holiness
1 Peter 1
16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.

  • love the Lord
Matthew 22
37
And He said to him, “ ‘YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.’

  • love one another
John 13
34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

  • die to self
Romans 6
6 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
7 For he that is dead is freed from sin.
8 Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:
9 Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

  • pray without ceasing
1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice evermore.
 17 Pray without ceasing.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

  • abide in the Lord
John 15
4
Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.

  • trust in the Lord
Psalm 37
3 Trust in the LORD and do good;
Dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD,
Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

This is not a strategy to be “checked-off” as a list.

It is Life of the Kingdom.

Let us do so.
Then, watch what the Lord does.
Who knows what the Lord has in mind…

Let us not be among those who work and work trying to “do something”.

Blessings!
