“Lay Aside, Run, Fixed Eye!”

Blessings folk!

So, let us continue to look at the conclusion of the gallery of faith in Hebrews 11.
Why did God remind us of these folk?
Why did He give the detail and interpretation?

Note the first Word of the following: “therefore”…in conclusion…in light of…

Heb 12:1-2

Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us,
let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us,
and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,

fixing our eyes on Jesus,
the author and perfecter of faith,
who for the joy set before Him endured the cross,
despising the shame,
and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Hebrews 11 was given to us to instruct, encourage, exhort.

We are to lay aside…

  • lay aside every encumbrance
  • lay aside every sin
  • lay aside all that entangles us.

Take it before the Lord.
What are the things in your live which entangle?
What are the encumbrances?
Wants?
Desires? Sin?
Etc. etc.?

Lay them aside.
The Lord empowers true believers to be able to do so.

We are to run…
  • run the race set before us…set by the Lord…forget not.
  • run in the endurance of the Lord

Run the race in joy.
Set aside the things that entangle.

How do we do this?

We are to fix our eyes on Jesus.

Upon what are your eyes focused?
Upon what are your passions and desires pursuing?
Anything other than the Lord Jesus is idolatry, pure and simple.

Let us fix our eyes upon Jesus.
Let us run the race set before us.
Let us lay aside all that entangles.

Oh yeah…all by faith!
