“Timothy: To Strengthen and Encourage”

Blessings folk!

Paul was concerned about the Thessalonians.
Not a fear and fright from the enemy.
A concern of the spirit.
How were they “doing”?
What had come of their situation?

Remember, Paul had left quickly under duress after only a brief period of time with them.

We learn much here…

1 Th 3:1-3

Therefore when we could endure it no longer,
we thought it best to be left behind at Athens alone,

and we sent Timothy, our brother and God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ,
to strengthen and encourage you as to your faith,

so that no one would be disturbed by these afflictions;
for you yourselves know that we have been destined for this.

Paul was human as we are.
He wanted to know.
He could endure the lack of knowing no longer.
He fetched Timothy to go and check on them.
Paul stayed behind.
He said it was “best”.
We do not know why.
Age?
Health? Ability to travel quickly?
Situation in Athens?
We do not know

Who is Timothy?
- Paul’s “brother” in the faith
- God’s fellow worker in the gospel of Christ

What was Timothy to do?
- strengthen them in the faith
- encourage them in the faith

Why?
- so that no one would be disturbed by the afflictions they were encountering

Paul had told them that we as believers are destined for such afflictions.

Therefore,
- Be encouraged
- Be strengthened
…in the Lord.

The difficult days are only beginning…

Fear not!
