“Your Curse Be On Me…”

“Your Curse Be On Me…”

Blessings folk!

We continue the account of Isaac and his “dysfunctional” family.

That is what the world would call them - “dysfunctional”.

Actually, it is the norm.

All families have situations.
All families have circumstances.
All families have sin.

Rebekah had just revealed the plan to Jacob.
He was to hurry, fetch an animal from among the flock.
She would fix a savory meal for Isaac.
Jacob would serve the meal, feigning to be Esau.
Jacob would receive the Blessing.

Gen 27:10-17
“Then you shall bring it to your father, that he may eat,
so that he may bless you before his death.”

Jacob answered his mother Rebekah,
“Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man and I am a smooth man.

“Perhaps my father will feel me, then I will be as a deceiver in his sight,
and I will bring upon myself a curse and not a blessing.”

But his mother said to him,
“Your curse be on me, my son; only obey my voice, and go, get them for me.”

So he went and got them, and brought them to his mother;
and his mother made savory food such as his father loved.

Then Rebekah took the best garments of Esau her elder son,
which were with her in the house, and put them on Jacob her younger son.

And she put the skins of the young goats on his hands and on the smooth part of his neck.

She also gave the savory food and the bread, which she had made, to her son Jacob.

This was a well-planned execution of deception.
One portion of the family undermining the other.
One portion playing upon the weakness - spiritual and physical - of the other.

A husband and wife that obviously had “issues”.

Mom was willing to let the curse fall on her.

Obviously, Jacob was Rebekah’s favorite.
Esau was Isaac’s.

She planned and plotted.

They staged the encounter.
Clothes of Esau.
Skins of young goats to emulate Esau…tells us something about him…rough, hairy, red.

Now, time for the meal, the Blessing, the deception.

So much of what the professing Body of Christ does follows this pattern.

Such should not be.
