“A Place - Go!”

Blessings Folk!!

A new year has begun...according to the calendar of man.

The end of a year and the beginning of a new year often precipitates times of reflection. Take a moment and read the following. The Lord Jesus had an encounter one day. We have examined this before, but, I think we do well to be reminded often.

John 8:1-11
1 Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.
2 And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.
3 And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,
4 They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5 Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
6 This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not.
7 So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.
8 And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.
9 And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.
10 When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?
11 She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

KJV
Some quick observations.

Jesus was doing that which He did...early in the morning...in the temple...teaching folk.

The religious rulers sought to “setup” Jesus with a woman…

  • caught “in the very act”...oh yeah? Where is the man caught in the “very act”?
  • the leaders were seeking to undermine Jesus in the eyes of the people. If Jesus said to ‘stone her’ in adherence to the Law, then the people would see him as just another ruler. If Jesus said ‘stone her not’, then He would be spun as “against the Law”, a heretic.

Jesus shows us how to handle temptation and the attack of the accuser, especially the religious.
  • He acted as though He “heard them not.” Of course, He heard it all. He saw through it all. He waited upon His Father. So should we. Ignore temptation. Ignore the accuser.

Then the Word of the Lord came. This was from Father. How do I know?

John 17:8
8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.
KJV

The Word was simple. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

Wisdom beyond man.

The religious rulers had created a scenario without flaw...they thought.
They had Jesus cornered. But, they knew not the mind of God.s

Then with the patience of the moment, with the kneeling before the Lord and doodling in sand, came the Word of the Lord.

The strategy and chicanery of man was blown away as the chaff in a hurricane.

Now, the tables were turned. What were the rulers to do? The oldest knew. They were convicted by their own conscience. Only one thing to do. Simply leave.

So, they did...beginning with the oldest.

Then the Lord did something for the woman.

He had her note where her accusers were. They were no more.
He told her that neither did He condemn her.

Hang on to this one thought…

Jesus gave her a place to begin again.

He did not condone her sin.

He told her to go and sin no more.

The Lord desires to do the same for all of us.

He desires to give us a place to begin again.

Let us seize His grace at the beginning of 2010...go, sin no more.

Blessings!!
