"Knit"

“Knit…”

Blessings folk!

Abner brought David to Saul.
David appeared with Goliaths head.
A bold declaration of victory, of boldness, of the move of the Lord.

Now, watch what happens…

1Sa 18:1-2

Now it came about when he had finished speaking to Saul,
that the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as himself.

Saul took him that day and did not let him return to his father’s house.

Well that is unexpected.

“The soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David”.

What does that mean?

This is interesting.

We know that Jonathan was a man of courage, a man of faith.
Remember his actions?

He saw a “kindred spirit” in David.

Both trust God.
Both moved boldly in God.
Both were men of war and valor.

It is even more interesting when we consider the chronology of the Word.
Jonathan was some thirty years older than David.

We see the beginning of something else.

The beginning of Jonathan abdicating his throne.
Jonathan would be the next king.
He was Saul’s son.

But, Saul took David into his house, apparently at Jonathan’s behest.

It is not surprising that this passage is perverted by some.

It is used by homosexuals to justify their sin.
They say Jonathan and David had a sexual relationship.

They did not.

The Hebrew word for “love” - ‘aheb - is never used of homosexual love.
The Hebrew word used for homosexual relations is “yada” - means “to know”.
(Also used by Seinfeld characters “yada, yada, yada”.)

So, Jonathan and David had a kindred spirit that knit them together.
We will see this develop…

Be not surprised at the unexpected relationships the Lord might bring in our lives.
