“Measured With A Line”

Blessings folk!

2 Samuel 8 gives some examples of the the military victories that David had.

The Word - Chronicles and Samuel - gives much insight into David’s subduing of enemies.

I want to back up to one verse we saw yesterday.
It was curious…

2 Samuel 8:2
He defeated Moab, and measured them with the line, making them lie down on the ground;
and he measured two lines to put to death and one full line to keep alive.
And the Moabites became servants to David, bringing tribute.

David did not exterminate every enemy.

He spared some.
They would then bring tribute to Jerusalem.

In this verse we have an example of how he did it.

David made the soldiers lie on the ground.
He measured them with a line.
This likely refers to measuring their height.
Perhaps to determine the younger versus the old.

Two lines he put to death.
One full line he kept alive to become servant.

He spare a third…likely based on height? Age?

Remember what we saw yesterday.
The Lord helped David everywhere he went.

The Lord does the same today for those who believe…
