“Sarah Laughed…”

“Sarah Laughed…”

Blessings folk!

Abraham was receiving a visit by three persons.
One was the Lord.

He told Abraham that the same time next year Sarah would bear his son.

Sarah was listening from the tent door.

What was her response?

Gen 18:11-12

Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age;
and it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.

Therefore Sarah laughed within herself, saying,
After I am waxed old shall I have pleasure, my lord being old also?

Sarah laughed.
The Hebrew word translated “laugh” means to “make sport of, laugh, mock, play”.
The definition would be a matter of the heart.

She did not laugh out loud…as is often thought.
She laughed within herself.

Why?

Because she was well past child-bearing age…”it ceased to be with Sarah after the manner of women.”
No longer did Sarah have the monthly reminder that there was no child.

She questioned.
Could this happen after she had “waxed” (grown) old?
Could this happen after her lord, Abraham, had grown old? (This was long before the “little-blue-pill&rdquoWinking

Her doubt, confusion, laughter, questioning can be understood.

The Lord gives us greater understanding.

Remember the verses we saw a few days ago…

Heb 11:11-12

Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

Therefore sprang there even of one, and him as good as dead, so many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

There bodies were “as good as dead” as far as reproduction.
Yet, it was at that point that God moved.

A principle for us.
Do not be distracted by what you see.
What do you believe?
Do you believe the Word of the Lord.

One last thing.
Did you see something in Hebrews that gives us insight into Sarah and her response?
Through faith!
