We do well to give close attention to the disicples…
  • to the questions they asked
  • to the way they behaved among themselves
  • to the way they behaved before Jesus
  • to what they thought of “the people”

We are so like them.

Here, they wanted to know who the greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven was.

Mark reveals that they were discussing it among themselves. Luke says they were arguing. So, they really wanted to know which of “them” was the greatest. They were silent when Jesus inquired as to the discussion. This reveals much.

Jesus knew.
Jesus’ answer was likely surprising to them.

Here are the truths he revealed:
  • we must be converted
  • we must received Jesus, thereby receiving Him Who sent Him
  • we must become as a child...innocence
  • we must be humble as a child
  • we must receive such children (referring to age and those converted)
  • we must be servant of all

The one who is the least among you all is the great one.

Don’t see this much in contemporary, “western church life”.

Explains much.
