“We Will Not Come Up!”

Blessings folk!

Remember, we are looking at the “rebellion of Korah” mentioned in Jude.

Jude 1:11
Woe to them!
For they have gone the way of Cain,
and for pay they have rushed headlong into the error of Balaam,
and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

The creepers that had crept into the Body were like these men.
Jude was using them as an example.

We know that Korah, Dathan, Abiram et. al. were rebelling against Moses/Aaron.

We know that this rebellion was really against God.

What was their complaint?

They wanted to know why Moses/Aaron were the leaders.
They wanted to be priests of the Aaronite line.

Then this…gives more insight.

Num 16:12-14

Then Moses sent a summons to Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; but they said,
“We will not come up.

“Is it not enough that you have brought us up out of a land flowing with milk and honey to have us die in the wilderness, but you would also lord it over us?

“Indeed, you have not brought us into a land flowing with milk and honey,
nor have you given us an inheritance of fields and vineyards.
Would you put out the eyes of these men?
We will not come up!”

Moses sent for Dathan and Abiram.
A summons.
Sounds “official”.

They refused.
Why?

They knew that the Lord had promised through Moses to bring the people into a land flowing with milk and honey.

That had yet to occur.

Now they were accusing Moses - and the Lord - of bringing them “up out of a land flowing with milk and honey…” to die in the wilderness.

They viewed the slavery they endured as “…land flowing…”
Anger, bitterness, resentment, jealousy, etc. colors the truth of the past, present and future.

They wanted inheritance, now!
They wanted fields, now!
They wanted milk, now!
They wanted honey, now!

They thought they would be better leaders to attain the promise.

Oh, really?
