“Avoid Foolish…”

Blessings folk!

Yesterday we saw this trustworthy statement…

Tit 3:8

This is a trustworthy statement; and concerning these things I want you to speak confidently, so that those who have believed God will be careful to engage in good deeds. These things are good and profitable for men.

If you believe God, be careful to engage in good deeds.
Such is good and profitable for men.

Give close attention to the next verse…

Tit 3:9

But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and strife and disputes about the Law, for they are unprofitable and worthless.

The first word is “but”…a contrast to the previous.

In engaging in good and profitable deeds we are to…
avoid foolish controversies
avoid genealogies
avoid strife
avoid disputes about the Law

Why?
Because such is unprofitable and worthless.

Does this mean that we can not examine, study and discuss such?
No.

It does mean that we are to avoid conversations where folk are seeking to bring confusion, disunity, fear, doubt….a “unholy” spirit…into the discussion.

We know the difference.

Many are the ones that live to “argue” for argument sake.
Many are those who live to undermine the faith by waxing eloquent in pseudo-intellectual pursuits.

There are multitudes of foolish controversies that distract the Body of Christ today.
Avoid them.

Surely we do not need to delineate them…do we? Happy
