"Twice the Sons of Hell…"

“Twice the Sons of Hell…”

Blessings folk!

Jesus continues His declaration of “woes” to the scribes and Pharisees.

These “woes” apply to us today - especially to religious leadership.

This verse is one of the most power and pointed.

Matthew 23:15
15 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites, because you travel around on sea and land to make one proselyte; and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

The scribes and Pharisees would travel near and far to seek a convert.
So do we.
So should we.

Yet, to what are we “converting them to”?

Jesus said that they were making their converts “twice as much a son of hell as yourselves”.
Powerful words.
They were converting them to religious practice...without true transformation of the heart.
Their offspring would be worse than they were.

The same applies to us.
We are not to seek converts to our organizational church.
We are not to seek converts to our faith/belief/interpretation/etc.
We are not to seek converts to our form and religious practices.

We are to seek converts to the Kingdom.
We are to seek converts to Life everlasting.
We are to seek converts to continued transformation to the image of Christ.

Anything else and we are making folk “twice the sons of hell” that we are.

Think on this.

We must be truly converted ourselves.
We must be living a life of holiness unto the Lord.
Then, we will be able to lead others in the proper way.

Do you give greater attention to the Kingdom of God or to “your” organizational church and/or denomination?

Do you give greater attention to the deeds done in the name of the “your” church or to the leading of the Lord in His Kingdom?
