“Encouraged Him In God”

Blessings folk!

So, you been reflect’n?
On the glory, awe and wonder of the Lord.
On His foreknowledge.
On His predestining.

Can you imagine how all this weighed upon David?

The Lord knows.

The Lord sent encouragement…

1Sa 23:15-18

Now David became aware that Saul had come out to seek his life while David was in the wilderness of Ziph at Horesh.

And Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David at Horesh, and encouraged him in God.

Thus he said to him, “Do not be afraid, because the hand of Saul my father will not find you, and you will be king over Israel and I will be next to you; and Saul my father knows that also.”

So the two of them made a covenant before the LORD;
and David stayed at Horesh while Jonathan went to his house.

Jonathan, Saul’s son, arose and went to David.
He went to encourage him “in God”.

Look at the words…

  • Do not be afraid
  • The hand of Saul my father will not find you
  • You will be king over Israel
  • I will be next to you (Jonathan expected that David would reign over him…remember, Jonathan would have been king)
  • Saul my father knows this also

Such encouragement!

David must have been fearful.
He must have been doubting.

Much as we often do.

These words reminded David of the Word of the Lord.
They encouraged.
They exhorted.

They then made a covenant before the Lord.

A reminder of what they had done before.

Be not afraid.
God is in control.
Encourage one another in the Lord.
