“Abide in Love…”

Blessings folk!

1 John 4:15-16
15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 So we have come to know and to believe the love that God has for us. God is love, and whoever abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

The Lord drives home the point that we are to abide in love.
We especially see this in the writing of the Apostle John…who describes himself as the “disciple whom Jesus loved.”

Note the process.

One must confess that Jesus is the Son of God.
Not just a soulish confession of the flesh.
Not a confession of the demons who believe and tremble.
A true confession.

God abides within the one who confesses and believes.
The one who confesses and believes abides in God.

This is the source of love.
God is love.

We abide in love because God abides in us and we abide in Him.

Can we choose to step outside of this abiding?
Yes.
I think this is a good definition of “sin” in the life of a believer - stepping outside the abiding Presence of God.

If we abide, we will not sin.
If we abide, we will love with the love of God.

Confess.
Believe.
Abide.
Love.
