Jesus had just fed 4,000 folk.
He then sent them away.
And immediately He entered the boat with His disciples and came to the district of Dalmanutha.
The Pharisees came out and began to argue with Him,
seeking from Him a sign from heaven, to test Him.
Sighing deeply in His spirit, He said, “Why does this generation seek for a sign?
Truly I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
The confrontations were becoming more intense.
The Religionists were boldly arguing with Jesus.
They were demanding a sign from heaven.
They did not care about a sign or heaven.
They wanted to test Him.
They wanted to trap Him.
The same occurs today.
Jesus sighed in His spirit.
He knew no sign would be given to this generation…save for the sign of Jonah…
But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation craves for a sign; and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign of Jonah the prophet;
“An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign; and a sign will not be given it, except the sign of Jonah.” And He left them and went away.
As the crowds were increasing, He began to say, “This generation is a wicked generation; it seeks for a sign, and yet no sign will be given to it but the sign ofJonah.
There would be a sign.
The sign of Jonah.
for just as JONAH WAS THREE DAYS AND THREE NIGHTS IN THE BELLY OF THE SEA MONSTER, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.
Jesus would be the sign.
His three days/night in the heart of the earth
“For just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites, so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
Jesus was/is the sign.
